Marvel Studios has been searching for someone to replace Jon Watts since the Spider-Man: No Way Home director parted ways with the planned Fantastic Four reboot earlier this year, and it sounds like Kevin Feige and co. may have found a filmmaker to step behind the camera to ensure the movie is ready for its scheduled 2024 release date.

The Direct is reporting that WandaVision director Matt Shakman has signed on to helm Fantastic Four.

This should obviously be treated as a rumor for the time being, but if there is any truth to it, we will most likely find out fairly soon when Marvel Studios' D23 Expo presentation takes place on Saturday, September 10.

In addition to WandaVision, Shakman has helmed episodes of Succession, Game of Thrones, and Fargo. We recently learned that he's set to direct the first two episodes of Apple TV's live-action Godzilla and The Titans series, and is also reportedly in line to direct Star Trek 4. So, it's fair to say they guy has a full plate at the moment!

We know next to nothing about the studio's plans for Marvel's First Family, but it has been confirmed that the movie will not retell the team's origin.

“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” said Feige in a recent interview. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

John Krasinski appeared as Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and while the A Quiet Place actor has denied any knowledge of his potential return, we'd be very surprised if he didn't reprise the role. A rumor has also done the rounds that Jason Segel will debut as The Thing in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, but that seems doubtful.
