Deadline reports that Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton) opened to $500,000 on 2000 screens last night before it expands to 3,372 theatres today. This isn't really a particularly good or bad result for a midnight screening of an R-Rated movie of this type, but the studio were hoping for better. Regardless, it is currently expected to take the #1 spot at the North American box office this weekend with a predicted haul of $25 million. Not bad at all, especially as its budget was only $50 million! Do you plan on checking out the movie at some point over the next few days? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

Fifteen years after their traumatic gingerbread-house incident, siblings Hansel and Gretel have become a formidable team of bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.

STARRING:

Jeremy Renner as Hansel
Gemma Arterton as Gretel
Thomas Mann as Ben
Famke Janssen as Muriel
Pihla Viitala as Mina
Peter Stormare as Sheriff Berringer
Derek Mears as Edward
Monique Ganderton as Candy Witch

I'm thinking this is one of those movies that you'd have to watch it for what it is. It doesn't insist upon itself.

25 million? That sucks. I was hoping it would open around 70-80 million to break January records to warrant a sequel. Oh well.

Gemma is beautiful. She's the hottest girl to have surgically separated appendages and artificial "mammo's."
