Check Out The Cover To THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY Blu-ray

Peter Jackson's first installment in his new Middle Earth trilogy - which has now outperformed the first 2 LOTR movies incidentally - hits DVD and Blu-ray on March 19th, and you can see a brand new, never before seen image from the film on the official Blu-ray cover after the jump..

No details on special features etc just yet, but apparently the movie will be available in a standard Blu-ray Combo Pack and a 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack. Keep an eye on CBM for updates.

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is in theaters now.

Extremely disappointing movie. Probably the first LOTR movie that I wont bother buying the extended edition for to add to my collection. After seeing the extended versions of the previous LOTR, I can't stand watching the theatrical ones anymore. But I'll probably watch the Hobbit extended edition at some point.

The LOTR extended editions were released a month or so before the next film came out. So if you can hold out until November...

As I said before: Even though it is predicted to do so by march I don't think it will hit the billion. It has been slowing down too mutch. But I hope I'm wrong. It deserves every cent. I really liked it.

I had to break up our family viewings of LOTR:EE into 12 one hour segments, over a period of two weeks. Such a great experience for my young kids.

We skipped THE HOBBIT in theaters because we knew the kids wouldnt be able to sit still so long. I predict we'll do the one-hour-a-night program once.the Extended Hobbit, part 1 comes out. (From what I've read, this may be a less tiresome way to watch the film anyway)

This was one of my favorite movies of the year (just behind Skyfall), but I'm going to wait for the Extended Edition. I've seen it 5 times, so that's enough to last me a year or so before the EE is released alongside Desolation of Smaug.
Ceejay

Seen it 5 times and will probably see it again. Really prefer original poster art for home video covers though.

Buying it and will also buy the extended when it comes out too. They never repeat the extras on these releases so if like me, you want to see everything including both cuts of the movie, then buying both is a no big deal. These guys produce the best supplementary material and features on home video.
