FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD Gets An Enchanting New Poster; Tracking For $65M-$75M Opening

Deadline is reporting that early tracking for Warner Bros' highly anticipated Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is pointing to an opening weekend in the $65 million to $75 million range, which is a figure that could potentially go much higher once reviews and reactions begin flooding the interwebs along with WB's final marketing push.

The original Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opened to $74.4 million domestically back in 2016 and grossed over $814 million worldwide ($234M domestic; $580M foreign) on its estimated $325 million production budget (including P&A). The Harry Potter spinoff ultimately turned an approximate $165 million profit, which is a massive success that WB is undoubtedly hoping to repeat with the upcoming sequel.

On another note, as the final marketing push begins, Warner Bros. is hosting a number of Fans First Screenings on November 3rd and even more during its Fantastic Fandom early screening event on November 13th, which does seemingly suggest thhe studio is feeling quite bullish about the sequel. Plus, for any fan that attends the latter event, they'll be awarded this exclusive poster that features the entire cast:

At the end of the first film, the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander. But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise wizards and witches up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

You just have to ponder just where Harry Potter will fit into WB’s/Rowling’s future plans. Will they...

1.) Utilize Time Travel and have Adult Harry go back to the 1920s/1930s and play some role? Perhaps this is an unknown meeting between Young Dumbledore and Adult Harry?

or (and more likely)

2.) Allow the next 4 FB films to finish in 2024 and then in 2026 which would be FILM HARRY POTTERS 25th Anniversary have the original cast return in a film adaptation of Harry Potter and Cursed Child?

3.). Or Both?

@IronGenesis - I really hope they don't make Cursed Child into a film. I could see them doing that, though.

Who's the guy on the left above his brother and the girl? I haven't seen him in the trailers I don't think but he must play a pivotal role.

I can never stop almost laughing whenever I look at Johnny Depp in this movie

His [frick]ing hilarious makeup and hair are the only reason I click on Fantastic Beast articles

Like with the first movie, I'm not going to watch this one either.

Johnny Depp is absolute trash after he beat up Amber Heard and cut off a part of his own finger to paint threats to her on a mirror in his own blood.

JK Rowling is also absolute trash after announcing that Dumbledore was gay years after the last Harry Potter book was released and that he had a romantic interest in Grindelwald, only to now announce that they'll not even have any scenes together in the whole movie and Dumbledore won't be portrayed as a gay character.

Literally [frick] these people. I'm sick of people like Disney and Warner Bros. who constantly give Johnny Depp movie after movie despite his reputation and people like JK Rowling who pretend to be morally righteous icons across the world who can't do no wrong when in actuality they're empty abhorrent people on the inside.

@Peel - I can't speak to the Johnny Depp stuff but you're making assumptions about whether or not Dumbledore is portrayed as gay. They said Jude Law and Johnny Depp don't have scenes together not that Grindelwald and Dumbledore don't have scenes together. Based off the trailer we have every reason to believe that they're building the connection between the two of them but everyone has decided to jump to judging the story before even letting it happen.

I always cared more for the characters (Harry, Ron and Hermoine) more than the world of HP. I just don't care and it's not like I only watched the movies, I read the books when I was a kid and went to every movie opening night. I still rewatch the movies and read the books but I just don't care for this franchise.

Absolutely hyped for this movie! Love it even more with every moron that keeps sticking their fingers into their ears and pretend Amber Heard is innocent, that Dumbledore isn't gay because of an article that didn't even claim him not to be so... Fandom is pathetic. The movie however? Looking forward to it! Great cast. Beautiful looking movie. I'm all set!
