HARRY POTTER Live-Action Series Reportedly In Early Development For HBO Max

We've heard rumblings thar Warner Bros. had plans to expand the Harry Potter franchise beyond the big screen, and it's now being reported that a live-action series is in early development for HBO Max...

Rumors have been doing the rounds for some time that Warner Bros. might be planning some type of Harry Potter spinoff for the small screen, and THR is now claiming that a series based in the Wizarding World is in the works for HBO Max.

Though studio reps are denying it ("There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform"), the trade is claiming that early discussions have taken place, and "executives at the WarnerMedia-backed streamer have engaged in multiple conversations with potential writers exploring various ideas that would bring the beloved property to television."

It sounds like the premise is still being decided upon at this stage, but there's a lot of potential to explore the world established in J.K. Rowling's beloved series of novels beyond the main story of Harry and his pals at Hogwarts.

The Harry Potter adaptations (and, to a lesser extent, the current Fantastic Beasts spinoffs) remain one of WB's most successful properties, so it's hardly surprising that there are plans to continue the franchise on HBO Max when streaming may soon become the primary focus of all the major studios.

If this Harry Potter series does become a reality, which stories/characters would you most like it to focus on? Let us know in the usual place.

A series about the Aurors would be really cool.

Hope it’s something fresh with new characters.

I kind of hope that the premise is based on the Marauders, it gives access to a few of my favorite characters (Lupin/Sirius), gets us introduced to characters we haven't actually met (James/Lily), the downfall of people who are weak (Peter) and the rise of a greater evil due to abuse (Snape) all set to the backdrop of Voldemorts 1st rise to power, which wouldn't even need to take center stage

Something that has nothing to do with the Grindelwald/Harry Potter storyline can be interesting. Maybe explore the early history in the Wizarding World, like when wizards weren't in hiding.

I’ve been hoping for some Clone Wars-style animation from this franchise but this will do

A friend of mine once joked, when asked why their weren't wizards and magic in America in the Harry Potter world, he said because we have technology.

- Aurors would be fun! It would probably please most of us. Though I could see them just making another Omegadammed police procedural with it.
- A YA school dramedy in either Hogwarts or the North American (if they want a blank slate to work from) could work. There's likely a huge audience for it.

Eh, unless if it's way before Harry I'll watch it. Fantastic beasts were mediocre af.

@bobevanz - I liked the first fantastic beasts but the sequel was unreal shite

Writes itself really:
a young students journey through Hogwarts akin to the original movies with villains and heroes thrown in.

Finally WB does something big for HBO Max, it has SO many licenses they should have used to start HBO Max with.

They’ve been struggling with this franchise since the end of the books. First with the lukewarm reaction by to Fantastic Beast (I personally liked it) then the franchise killing sequel, and then the awful Cursed Child.

So hopefully they can right the ship here. But maybe this a franchise just without much gas in its tank without their boy wizard.

Makes sense, WB seems to be on their last legs. Neither the DCEU, Fantastic Beasts films, nor the Godzilla films have been the critical and commercial successes they were intended to be.

Time of the witch-hunt and a role for Dan Stevens.

@Repian - Also, I'll be happy if Jeremy Irons plays the great villain Inquisitor. The ruthless enemy of the wizarding world.

Personally, I would have liked the Dumbeldore and Grindelwald story to be told in a TV format rather than in the Fantastic Beasts movies.

WB should try something new with the franchise as it makes it way to TV. My pick would be an Aurors series. Have it be a dark TV-MA rated series that would basically be a fantasy version of True Detective or Luther. The Wizarding World can get really dark and I think that should be explored.

As iconic as the movies are and I love them, I'd still like to see a television series that more accurately adapts the books. I think it's still too soon though. Maybe in another 5-10 years.

I say a live action series about a Quidditch team/player that's made like a "by-the-numbers, feel good" sports/team drama about competing to go to the Quidditch World Cup.

For added drama, each season could be set DURING the films. That's my first pass.

Call me Warner Brothers. 🤙🧑

How bout Quidditch Throughout The Ages except you don't follow one single story you make it an anthology series with each episode set in a different year and you make it a limited mini series of say six , seven or eight episodes.
