As its premiere date draws near, Prime Video has released a new TV spot and a pair of promo posters for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The teaser mostly reuses footage from previous spots and trailers, but there are a few new shots in there, as the Elves and Dwarves of Middle Earth embark on an uneasy alliance in an effort to stand against Sauron's forces.

Of course, both of these races harbour a deep mistrust for the other by the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved novels, so we know things don't exactly work out.

The posters, meanwhile, focus on one of the few characters fans will be familiar with from Peter Jackson's movie trilogy, Galadriel.

Played by Cate Blanchett in Jackson's films, Welsh actress Morfydd Clark will take on the role of this younger incarnation of the Elven warrior, who is set to play a pivotal part in this prequel tale as she attempts to prevent the return of The Dark Lord and the spread of evil across Middle Earth.

Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to premiere on Friday, September 2.

@marvel72 - It does seem like a large portion of the long-time LOTR fanbase are not happy with what they have seen of the adaptation.

We will see if it resonates with the general audience or not. I'm not a Tolkein die hard so I'll check it out and see if I like it.

Not expecting much after the travesty that was Amazon's Wheel of Time adaptation.

@marvel72 -
So, do you think it would do better if everyone was white except the Orcs and stuff?

@Goldboink - Well if you base it on the original Tolkein stories then yes.

How are they going to explain where all the black elves,Hobbit and Dwarfs went when we reach fellowship of the ring.

@Goldboink
@marvel72 - It's a fictional fantasy universe. Tolkien's work never specified a particular race to have a a specific skin colour other than a few vague descriptions and stuff about Elves and some other races, which could easily be overlooked.

This is an American production that's diversifying their casting choices due to the fact that there are ethnic minority actors, based in white majority countries, whom are seeking roles. Therefore, certain creative liberties can be taken to accommodate those actors. Why can't they have a role in a production adapting Tolkien's work?

"The greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen." That would have been Morgoth, Tolkien's original "Satan", the one who created dragons and orcs and corrupted the Maiar into Balrogs. Sauron's master. I wish they had adapted the Silmarillion; but then they could have screwed it up the way they did the Hobbit.

Doing the 2nd Age is probably safe for this, as so little was written about it. But I'm pretty sure they're going to get it all wrong. Like the Hobbit.

A meteor!? But Tolkien never went to a planetarium in his life this show automatically sucks and will be terrible and if you watch it the government will seize your copies of LOTR and burn them!
