According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nathan Fillion will play Hermes in the Thor Freudenthal-directed sequel titled Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Sea of Monsters:

"The star of ABC's Castle has joined on to star as Greek diety Hermes in Fox 2000's sequel Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Sea of Monsters, based on the second book in Rick Riordan's best-selling young adult book series."

Logan Lerman will reprise his role as Percy, and Brandon T. Jason and Alexandra Daddario are also returning. Film is set to hit theatres in 2013. Here is a synopsis of the second book:

When Thalia's tree is mysteriously poisoned, the magical borders of Camp Half-Blood begin to fail. Now Percy and his friends have just days to find the only magical item powerful enough to save the camp before monsters overrun it. The catch: they must sail into the Sea of Monsters to find it. Along the way, Percy must stage a daring rescue operation to save his old friend Grover. He also learns a terrible secret about his own family, which makes him question whether being the son of Poseidon is an honor or a curse.

Maybe Fillion will get in shape for this one. Now that Castle has given him some financial security, such that he can eat regularly, you can tell that he DOES.

First movie was shit. I could not even watch the whole movie. Shit acting. Shit writing. I stopped watching when I saw the actor playing Hades...what a [frick]ing joke. And the writing was shit.

Ryan Reynolds and Marc Strong were the only good things about GL.
Perhaps Guillermo Del Toro should direct a sequel? The creature designs in Hell Boy 2: The Golden Army were good and a whole lot better than the completely CGI creatures in GL.

even though there is only 5 years difference between them, fillion still looks old enough to be reynold's dad

I liked the first film and I'm a Greek mythology buff. Loved what Riodan (author of the books) did with the mythology, and the movie was fun! Fillion means that the sequel still has good legs. I can't wait.

@Supersaiyanfan1- He was my choice too, but Andrew Garfield seems to be okay in the role.

I guess all those years of suckling at Whedon's tit HAVENT paid off. I feel bad for the dude. Not a bad actor, seems some of the jobs he does are such low budget crap that they have to pay part of his wages with home depot coupons.

i wonder if this means they will be getting the story to follow the books a little more closely now.

Dunno what everybody's bitching about. Just a part to fill the Castle hiatus. Not awesome, not horrible, no career down the drain for gods sake.. Now, new doctor Horrible thats gonna be filmed this summer looks way more exciting than this, but it's still not horrible. What you still expect him to star in videogame movies on hiatuses?

I wish Whedon would find a place for Fillion somewhere in the Avengers universe. The problem is that Nathan gained about twenty pounds since Serenity, and he's on the wrong side of forty.

Fillion as nate drake! I dont want to see marky mark as him. NOOO!!! They are even at the same age. If sweet Fillion worked a little, wearing the same clothes in firefly and....there we got our nate drake :)

Or else, I would rather see the real drake mr. Nolan North as him together with the other real cast (Emily rose <3) in a live action movie!!! YES!

Yes! Nathan is playing the god who invented the internet! FTW! I wonder if we'll get that scene from the book where he's jogging and later is informed by the two snake receptionists coiled around his cell phone's antennae that he has a call waiting from the gods. Lol. Messenger god, traveler god, thief god.

@JillValenfield- If not Fillion ,then Josh Holloway who played 'Sawyer' on the TV show 'LOST'. Google him for info if you need it.:) He's a talented character actor too.

I still haven't seen the first movie. One of my friend's told it was very good though.

@headlopper If he was much younger, I think he would be a great choice.

The old script treatment for the movie sounded bad. Thankfully, they got a new writer on board who is going to make it closer to the games.

Wow so are those child actors going to be like 40 by the time this series is completed?? 5 years between each film and all. Way to f**k this one up eh?!?! Kinda thought Harry Potter laid the blueprint for how to do this correctly.
SupermanFan09
SupermanFan09 - 3/15/2012, 11:30 PM
i enjoyed the books and the movie...however @BlueHawaiiSurfer is right...they should've found 2 solid acters around age 12 to grow into the role cause the fifth book is pretty dark...or at least do 13 so its when he turns 18 or something...smh
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 3/16/2012, 12:17 AM
Hmm, interesting choice. Judging from the book, he won't be in it that much, though; but it surely will be cool to see him in the role! (Additionally, they seem to have changed a lot from the books, so this might turn out differently, too.)

Not to be rude or anything but the 1st movie (Lightning Thief) SUCKED! It had lots of flaws. The book was WAAAAAAAYYYYY better than the movie. But I think he would be a good Hermes. I have the box series of the books.
