The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

Starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving and Orlando Bloom, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released on December 17th.

Hmmm, I just can't get excited for this! I found the first Hobbit movie to be good, but Desolation of Smaug wasn't that great IMO. Honestly this series feels rather soulless at some points and has a ton of filler scene. Should have dropped that love triangle non-sense and just keep Evangeline Lilly's character.

I won't watch any of them 'til Jackson's done.
Ralph Bakshi tricked me and I'll never trust again!

ALSO won't watch the Atlas Shrugged movies until they're finished too.

@DeusExSponge I couldn't agree more with you. Desolation of Smaug was such a letdown...

the first one was good,if you fast forward the singing scene at the start.

the second one was very good miles better than the first movie.

as for the third can't wait, should be the best of the trilogy.

@gusto - they rocked. This will get the same complaints.

I dunno. Seeing Billy Connelly ride a wild boar into battle as a old dwarven hellraiser - if you're not into that then you're not into nothin rad.

... Hmm. That kinda sounds like you on a good weekend.

Ehhh......I mean, I really like the movies, but I just cant stand the moments that are so ridiculous it takes me out of the movie. The first film when their on the Mountain Giants knee. Then Bombur rolling into a giant ball running over goblins. The second film with Bombur yet again turning into an unstoppable force when their in those barrels. That scene was just way too drawn out. Then at the end with them avoiding Smaug. They just took some of those scenes too far imo. Other than that I really enjoyed the films.

Thats just me though. Those kinds of things get on my nerves. Like Jurassic Park the Lost World, when his daughter decides that in the middle of an Raptor attack, that then would be a good time to do some gymnastics on those poles. Then conveniently the Raptor walks in front of the window just within reach of her skinny ass little legs so she could kick a several hundred pound dinosaur out the window to its death. Things like that ya know?

WYLEEJAY - I agree on the Lost World part, I found that stunt pretty stupid and annoying. Although I disagree with your Bombur point, I found those scenes to be awesome and fun to watch.

Its not hard to me to enjoy something. This film franchise is one of my favorites. Its just for some reason im left feeling like, come on, get the story going, in those few scenes I mentioned. Entertaining for a minute, but it just keeps going. Thats just me though. I can understand other people feeling differently.

WYLEEJAY - Oh no I get that, I actually feel the same way sometimes. When I go through watching the movie again, I sometimes just want to skip the scenes because I want the story to move on.

I enjoyed the first two, but as with the LotR, Jackson does tend to drag things out sometimes. He should have stuck to his guns and made this series with just two movies.

@WYLEEJAY, I've made it no secret that I can't stand these Hobbit movies (adored LotR though, for the most part), so I guess take what I say with a grain of salt haha.

But I completely agree. Those moments are just so ridiculous and out of place in a Middle-earth movie. It's bad enough that those moments make it even more unbelievable to me that the LotR trilogy actually took place in the same universe as The Hobbit...but each of those jump-the-shark scenes are just so horribly executed with terrible CGI.

I honestly can't picture Boromir's noble death scene taking place in the same world where Bombur literally flew around in a barrel and took out hordes of orcs on a white-water rapids amusement park ride. It's just so jarring, and really not in the spirit of the book at all.

The people who are complaining about the running time, you don't have to watch it. I grew up when 88 minutes was an average movie running time, you I don't mind more movie for my dollar. Desolation was much better, I hope 5 Armies continues the trend.

OH geez...let's hope this isn't Thranduil bringing a special "bow" to Bard in an attempt to match what Elrond did for Aragorn.
