“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

Starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Hugo Weaving and Orlando Bloom, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released on December 17th.

I love all this....but a small nitpick is the use of CGI is a tad too much.....overall....it was on the verge of looking too cartoony in the last film.....but can't wait for this..

The fact Ian McKellen broke down crying while filming alone on a green screen set says just how overboard they went with the CGI

@NovaCorpsFan - Yeah, they did But it was needed.

The only CGI moments that bothered is the moments with Legolas riding a horse at night and scene with dwarves in tunnel with molten gold - two noticeable green screen replacement.

That scene may have been upsetting for Ian, but the end result was great. And that was a really neat way to get Gandalf into the scene with all the dwarfs.

Poor Ian.. However, the final result was amazing. And he got to shoot plenty of scenes on location too, that must've been refreshing :P

I def wasn't a fan of all of the CGI in the last movie. It really looked bad in high frame rate.

@NovaCorpsFan...context, my friend...McKellen was upset as an actors need to react from other actors NOT because CGI (over) use.

All people I know that saw Hobbit films in 48 fps said that all make up in it looks Fake, and quality of shots are like documentaries, but ONE BIG PLUS is that Action is never Blured as in 24-25 fps. It's crystal clear and fluent and soft.

Even though a lot of people resist it, me too, but as everything new was resisted at the time of its release, I think people will like it with some time.

@Facade
I know the story, I know the context, but I tend to class using visual effects to put actors into shots they're not in as CGI.
