With the lack of promotion, you may've forgotten that Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance, sequel to the 2007 Nicolas Cage-starrer, was in the making, slated for release next year. Though nothing major, nor surprising, the offical Twitter profile for the sequel's duo directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, recently tweeted the following:

So, following today's confirmation of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man having a slot, and undoubtedly Marvel's The Avengers among others, save anticipation for the Ghost Rider revision sequel at San Diego Comic-Con convention next month!

Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance picks up where it's been several years since making a deal with the Devil and Johnny Blaze, living in self-imposed isolation, finds himself as the only person who can help save 10-year-old Danny – and ultimately the world – thanks to his unwanted and uncontrollable power – his ability to transform into the hell-on-wheels monster 'Ghost Rider'. Starring Nicolas Cage, Idris Elba, Ciarán Hinds, Christopher Lambert & Violante Placido, the film releases in 3D February 17, 2012

Haha! That's the first time I've heard the director sound shock at the sheer brilliance of their work.

I don't see why Cage is starring in a reboot. If it really is a reboot, then why is the same actor starring in it??? I've NEVER heard of that before. The fact that he's back, makes me not interested, since it links it to the awful first movie.

The presentation at Comic-Con that no one will be visiting (except maybe the directors' and actors' families--maybe). The black-hole of Comic-Con. The one that the tumble-weeds will be rolling through. ...I could continue but I think you get the point. ...
I don't mean to be a jerk about it...but they have all franchises they're rebooting instead of just improving in the sequel...this is one of the ones that actually needed a reboot and for some dumb reason it gets a sequel. ...albeit a 'pseudo-sequel' at best.

here me out here: i actually hope this doesn't do well SO that Marvel gets the rights back.

@puyguy:
Fair enough sir...and i can def agree w/you.
BUT just the simple act of subtracting Nic Cage from the equation makes the value increase exponentially ;)

at any rate...i could see maybe Marvel doing a GR movie as part of the line-up of more obscure (for want of a better word) franchises they plan to develop after the Avengers. ...but even then itd be a risk.

Haven't kept up with this movie, because the last one was very disappointing. Is this Ghost Rider going to be rated R?

we haven't seen ANYTHING official from this movie.... how can people already knock it? its worse than the people that were knocking First Class based around a couple of pictures. Will fanboys ever learn?

The first Ghost Rider was not that bad guys, come on now! The origin was mostly solid with a few minor tweaks, and the transformation and Rider effects were awesome. Where it sucked was with the villains. Peter Fonda was ok as Mephistopheles, but Wes Bently sucked as Blackheart. And all of the other villains were no competition for Ghost Rider. Other than that, Cage really seemed to not know how to play Blaze, therefore deciding to ham it up. I can kind of understand his confusion on how to play Blaze, because whenever I read the comics, I was always just waiting for the Rider, and could never get a good idea of who Blaze was. Hopefully, these directors have a good handle on him. As long as all of the other issues get resolved, then we are good to go. And if this one doesn't work, then it may just be a good idea to ditch the 616 version, and go with the origin from Ultimate Avengers.

I don't have a thing against cage (except that NOT THE BEES scene someone posted once, that was pathetic), but the SCRIPT needs to be good. That's really important.
