Dinah Drake To Appear On ARROW

Dinah Drake To Appear On ARROW

The mother of Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and the original Black Canary (at least in the comic books), Dinah Drake will reportedly make an appearance in the sixteenth episode of the CW's Arrow. Will this be our first look at Black Canary or is this a red herring?

Could the original Black Canary appear first before Katie dons her fishnets?

According to Zap2It, Laurel’s mother, Dinah, abandoned Laurel years ago, but in Episode 16, she’ll return to Starling City looking to reconcile with her estranged daughter. In comic book lore, Laurel inherits the Black Canary mantle from her mother. Details are scarce at this point on whether that scenario will play out on the show or if the character will possesses the Black Canary moniker at all. The original version of the character would definitely be more in keeping with the tone of the show as the original does not have the famed 'Canary Cry'. Plus, she's debuting in an episode that features a team-up from Deadshot and China White. Oliver's going to need some help, right? For now, the two main questions are why did she leave Starling City and why is she now returning, looking to reconnect with Laurel?

So far, these are the DC Comics characters confirmed for guest spots during the second-half of Season One---

SYNOPSIS: After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he's become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel's father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver's own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

The series stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance.

She'll probably be called canary because according to the CW people will think it's stupid that they are called by there full superhero name. Despite the fact that the 2 biggest movies of last year where both superhero movies and both made well over $1 billion. I wonder if we'll ever get a superhero based tv show that has writing as amazing and smart as breaking bad or the wire.

WOW 23 episodes?! this is great i thought we were only going to get 15 or so,and the writing needs to be better hope they can make it more complex.

I hope they build up to Black Canary for 10 episodes or so. It'd be way cooler that way.

As said above, original Black Canary, Dinah Drake didn't have a Canary Cry.

So help me out here. No one will have super powers on the show so all bad guys will just be good fighters with different outfits? I like the show but would like to see someone with powers. I know , I know will not happen

It's the first season. I think once they exhaust all their non-super power storylines and characters, we'll start to see characters with abilities.

I honestly wish we could just get a comic book show that follows the comic books. I understand that there will have to be some changes in order for it to work in live action but seriously these guys never make the right changes.

Katie Cassidy brings a human quality to the lifeless character. She's been given some bad material and they've turned her from kick-ass woman into a measly damsel in distress. :/

That's very cool. If Katie Cassidy ever becomes Black Canary on the show, Oliver could just get her some high-tech equipment to act as her "Canary Cry."

Like she could carry around a high-frequency sonic emitter to stun bad guys.

Would not be surprised if Dinah Drake turns out to be a government agent who's code name is Black Canary. It would explain why she disappeared.
