STAR WARS Actor John Boyega Doesn't Sound Keen On Those BLADE And GREEN LANTERN Fan Petitions

When it comes to a comic book role for Star Wars: The Last Jedi's John Boyega, characters like Blade and John Stewart are frequently put forward by fans. However, the actor doesn't sound keen on either...

John Boyega made a name for himself with Attack the Block before making the leap to a Galaxy Far, Far Away with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now, he's looking to enter a different part of the blockbuster realm by taking on a lead role in the upcoming Pacific Rim: Uprising. Time will tell whether or not that pans out for the British actor but may fans are more interested in seeing him play a superhero.

Two characters frequently put forward (particularly in that seemingly never-ending wave of petitions) are Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and John Stewart, an African American member of the Green Lantern Corps who is expected to take on a lead role in the upcoming DC Comics adaptation.

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like Boyega is particularly interested in either one of those heroes.

A lot of fans freaked out when you did AMA recently about you possibly wanting to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as either Blade or the DC Universe as John Stewart. At least this is what I have heard. A lot of fans have…

John Boyega: OH!!! Oh! Oh!

So, would you be interested in joining one of these big comic book cinematic universes?

John Boyega: I mean, yeah! I mean, that wouldn’t be a problem. I just don’t know who.

Well, there’s John Stewart, the Green Lantern. Blade at Marvel.

John Boyega: They’re doing a Green Lantern? (Negatively groans) Sss.. Hmmm…..Eghhh…. (Laughs) And Wesley, man. That’s Wesley for Blade. I would want to see Wesley.

It's easy to see where Boyega is coming from and if he does ultimately land a role in a Marvel or DC Comics movie, then it will be interesting seeing if he plays a hero or villain and if that character is a big name or a little more obscure. What do you guys think? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place.

Is Boyega a thing? I mean outside of Star Wars?

@IronGenesis - He is the new Jaeger Master

FromACertainPOV
FromACertainPOV - 3/12/2018, 8:04 AM
@IronGenesis - He was great in Detroit and obviously Attack The Block before he got the role of Finn.
IronGenesis
IronGenesis - 3/12/2018, 8:14 AM
@FromACertainPOV - oh I understand his ability. But who went to see Detroit? Or the Circle. Did anyone know he was even in the circle?

I guess it’s more...okay he doesn’t want to be in a CBM. Okay. Not like the CBM world was holding its breath you say yes.

@IronGenesis - Well obviously I did haha, you’re right though The Circle is not that good. I like the author of the book though.

Im confused by what you’re saying though?

It seems a strangely defensive and passive aggressive take, even stranger by the fact that you seem to be insinuating that he’d be lucky to be in a CBM when the guys in STAR WARS of all things.

@IronGenesis - yeah he is but much like Hamill and Ford that’s obviously his overwhelmingly most recognized role. He’s lesser know here in the states but Attack the Block was pretty successful at least critically when it came out

@IronGenesis - Me and my family went to see Detroit, not a feel good movie but he was solid in it...even if I didn't like his character too much.
HannibalLecter
HannibalLecter - 3/12/2018, 8:26 AM
@IronGenesis - He didn't say he doesn't want to be in a CBM, he just expressed disdain towards Green Lantern for obvious reasons.
IronGenesis
IronGenesis - 3/12/2018, 8:28 AM
@FromACertainPOV - no I wouldn’t say I am defensive.

The tone of the initial article struck me like the CBM world was losing something by not having Boyega in it.

That is why I questioned is he a very popular or Box Office Moving Actor that I wasn’t aware of because outside of Star Wars I knew he was talented, just in films no one sees.

So I questioned am I missing something? Should Boyega not being interested in a CBM be a big deal?

@IronGenesis - That's kind of usual in a Josh Wilding article, he is always very opinionated, you may get to read more than 5 rants before getting to the actual quote, so I suggest you to focus on what Boyega was asked and what he actually said instead of all the fuel in the rest of the article.

@IronGenesis - he’s interested in cbms, he just doesn’t want to do GL or Blade.
HannibalLecter
HannibalLecter - 3/12/2018, 7:59 AM
It's alright, I thought he didn't like CBMs judging by the title, but is just that he is not excited about Green Lantern (surprise, surprise) and he can only see Snipes as Blade (Respect!).
Origame

@HannibalLecter - And what if he didn't like CBMs? Why are people so triggered by that?

@Origame - What people?
Origame
Origame - 3/12/2018, 8:54 AM
@HannibalLecter - 1) don't dodge my first question. 2) all those people who complain about actors like Daniel Day Lewis who say they don't want to do a CBM because they don't like it.

@Origame - LOL how the fück can I answer your first question? Ask Boyega himself he can do with his life whatever he wants.

And don't take the opinions of this site or similar places too seriously, most users here are manchild fanboys that waste most of their days on this site compaining about everything, even about someone famous who doesn't care about CBMs.
Origame

@HannibalLecter - my first question was on you. Why does it matter whether he likes it or not? Your comment mentioned having respect for him because "it's not like he doesn't like cbms". Why's that something even worth bringing up if it doesn't matter?

And I'm not even entirely sure you aren't one of those manchildren.
HannibalLecter
HannibalLecter - 3/12/2018, 1:03 PM
@Origame - I was just pointing out how misleading the title was, all too common on Wilding articles where he tries to start a flame war with any bits of "news".

But I agree with you, actors, directors and just about anyone has the right to not like comics, or to not be interested in watching a CBM or reading a comic even, super heroes aren't the center of the world.

P.S. If you think these people overreacted now you should have read the article where the star of the first Pacific Rim expressed no interest in CBMs, it really brought the worse on this site, sadly.

@HannibalLecter - Ok. I'll admit I may have read too much into that.

@Benjamitesandwich - Yeah he could do a solid-to great-Blade, he should act more nuanced like in Attack the block though.

I like him he’s got acting chops. I hate Finn but I don’t hate Boyega. So like.... find him someone I wouldn’t be mad

Boyega hasn't done anything good since Attack of the Block.
And, no, he's not an ideal fit for Blade or John Stewart.
Ha1frican
Ha1frican - 3/12/2018, 8:20 AM
I love him but I’d rather he either join a Black Panther sequel or maybe Guardians to poke fun at Star Wars than Blade and he’s far too young imo for John Stewart. For Blade I’ve always like Michael Jai white but he’s honestly a bit on the older side for something like that now. I wouldn’t hate seeing Idris Elba, or Jaimie Fox as John stewart either
