Marvel Gave James Gunn A GOTG Orb With A Red Infinity Stone For His Birthday

Wait why "Red" and not "Purple" ? Check it out.

In order to celebrate Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn’s birthday and maybe thank him a little bit for creating a hit movie, Marvel gifted Gunn with a replica of the orb fromGuardians of the Galaxy. Gunn shared a photo of the orb he received with his fans via social media.

The orb is on a plaque with a placard inscribed, “That was a pretty good plan.” Obviously, the inscription not only quotes a famous Peter Quill line from the movie, but it’s also an acknowledgement that Gunn had a pretty good plan in putting together the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Now, there is something particularly interesting about Gunn’s orb, which is generating a lot of fan debate. The orb is open, and inside of the orb is a red Infinity Stone. Of course, in the movie, the Infinity Stone appeared to be purple, so many are wondering why Marvel gave Gunn a red Infinity Stone.

In response to a fan question on Twitter about which Infinity Stone was used in Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn had responded that it was the Power Stone. Of course, his answer had created debate online, because in the comic books the Power Stone (Gem) is actually red.

Could it be that the Infinity Stone in Guardians of the Galaxy is supposed to be red, and it just came out looking purple on the big screen after the special effects were added? Who knows, we might soon find out.

This is silly guys, theres a load of reasons why it looks red but none of them are anything to do with the MCU or infinity stones themselves.
Looking too much into this people

Maybe he's implying the purple is better for GotG because of this guy?

Doesn't explain why the stone is red though in his gift? Probably nothing...

When making a movie - even during post - colour palettes a really important. They can set the tone and feel of a film and when creating something like the Avengers it can help bring an identity and mood to a scene/character.

Also each of the Avengers themselves (especially the big four) are associated with certain colours (as well as musical queues). It's no accident that Steve Rogers boxing gym is primarily made up of red, white and blue, or that Bruce Banner works in a bottling factory that makes a green drink.

So when putting together a film it's no surprise if the infinity stones have their colours changed in order to add to the colour palette of the film. Cap is associated with Blue - so the Tesseract is that colour. Thor is associated with Red - so the either is that colour.

Mind you, having said that GotG seem to mainly associated with the colour orange so maybe Marvel missed a trick there ;o)

I think the Aether took the red color because it looked aesthetically better in Thor: The Dark World. The Aether is the Reality Stone and should had been yellow -and that probably didn't look good as a color pallet for Thor. Since the Tesseract, the Space Stone, never showed it's color in The Avengers -James Gunn probably chose "purple" as the best color pallet for GOTG. The Tesseract most likely will be assigned whatever color the other directors choose not to use in future movies.

Complaining about changing the colours of the Infinity Gems from the comics is ridiculous sense in the comics the colours are always changing.

Do we know for sure that the Aether is the Reality stone, did Feige confirm it?

@BatzFTWfan

The Aether teleports? In Thor: TDW, wasn't it the convergence of the realms that allowed the ability to freely move from realm to realm

Did anyone else read the beginning of the title and thought it said Marvin Gaye?

@BatzFTWfan

Huh? The convergence had a lot to do with Thor: TDW, it's the reason for the teleportation/transporting to different realms.... Selvig studied the convergence, and the devices he created were able to teleport things to different worlds.... In the final battle the convergence was at it's peak

@DrDoom

Still, nothing is confirmed.... The soul gem is still a possibility, and the Aether doesn't represent the Reality gem, imo, it just seems like it could be the right choice through process of elimination of the other infinity gems we already know....

Looks like the orb was red, pre visual effects, which would explain why Marvel gave James Gunn the red orb
