GOTG VOL. 3 Spoilers - Find Out What Happens In The Movie's Post-Credits Scenes

Director James Gunn has already confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will feature two post-credits scenes, and you can find out what happens in both of them right here...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters in several locations in The U.K and other parts of Europe, but it doesn't hit U.S. theaters until the weekend. If you haven't managed to see the movie yet, be warned that major spoilers follow from this point on.

Like most Marvel Studios movies, James Gunn's GOTG swansong contains two post-credits scenes, and you can find out what happens in both of them below.

The mid-credits stinger seemingly takes place some time after the conclusion of the movie, with Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper) leading a new team of Guardians consisting of Kraglin Obfonteri (Sean Gunn), Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), Cosmo the Spacedog (Maria Bakalova), a now massive Kaiju-like Groot (Vin Diesel), and one of the young girls who they rescued from High Evolutionary’s ship, whose name just so happens to be Phyla-Vell!

The crew is sitting around chatting about their favorite songs (Warlock has great taste, incidentally), when Rocket chooses a tune that should be very familiar to GOTG fans, Redbone's "Come and Get Your Love."

The banger plays as the team leaps into action to defend a peaceful planet against an army of ferocious aliens.

Then, after the credits have rolled, we catch up with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who returned to Earth to reconcile with his grandfather after handing over leadership to Rocket. He and his grandpa (Gregg Henry) are eating breakfast while discussing their neighbour's lawn, and... that's about it!

This scene is really just to hammer home how mundane life is for Quill now, but it does include a fun Easter egg, as the newspaper Jason Quill is reading features a headline about Kevin Bacon's "alien abduction" in the Disney+ Holiday Special.

The most interesting this about this sequence is the final title card, which states: The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.

We had been led to believe that Pratt would be hanging up his pistols after this movie, but there seems to be plans in place for his character to return to the MCU, possibly for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars.

"In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past." "Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."

Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova. Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.

Great movie, great trilogy. Gunn balances the heart and the humor very well.

The DCU will be great.

@vectorsigma @vectorsigma - actress playing phyla vell is Kai Zen. The actress from Knock at the cabin name is Kristen Cui who isn't in GOTG3. They don't look alike to me but I guess I can see similarities.

Got to wonder if anyone will be interesting in picking up with rocket’s guardians

@dracula - I would. Rocket and Groot have always been my favorites of the team anyway.

Drax was okay, but really didn't serve as anything more than telling jokes. I don't care much about Kraglin. We'll see how I feel about Warkock but I'm not sold on him yet. Phyla-Vell is cool. And I love Cosmo.

But this is a very weird team. They will need to add a more human presence to it. If they do another Guardians movie I'm willing to be Star Lord would be a part of it.

@CorndogBurglar - i mean directors, audiences probably would be interested if it happens

now that gunn is going over to dc, is any director going to be wanting the d-ist of d listers

like really of the characters marvel has adapted don't think there has been a more unknown character than the guardians

gunn made them big

@dracula - Post-Gunn Guardians will be a tough sell. I’m not saying it’s not possible to pull off, but the team as we know them on screen is Gunn through and through.

If they keep it going, I would hope for a tone change. A more serious serious and gritty (I hate that descriptor but am using it anyway) tone. If another director tried keeping Gunn’s tone, I don’t expect it to land.

@CorndogBurglar - Honestly I think it's a shame that Warlock ended up joining the team. Gunn barely did anything with him in the movie, I was wishing that any other future Marvel projects could've pick him up to utilises him more. But now he's stuck with the Guardians

@CorndogBurglar - I think they will get a series but I don't really see this team getting a movie

Pretty sure that last thing as the end was the punchline to the joke about Quill's new life...because that is the only thing this movie actually do with one of the characters.

I love how they compare it to the swan song of MCU greatness that happened 4 years ago, and not any of the mehness that has followed.

“ We had been led to believe that Pratt would be hanging up his pistols after this movie, but there seems to be plans in place for his character to return to the MCU, possibly for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars.”

The title card at the end teases Star-Lord returning, not necessarily Peter Quill. If Pratt doesn’t come back then the Star-Lord title can certainly continue. Considering Sinjin Quarrel takes up the mantle in the comics after Quill has been missing for a very long time this could certainly be the way they take things since Quill is effectively retired by the end of the movie.

As an aside, this was the best MCU movie since No Way Home, BUT, total cop out that none of the teams members get killed off. Especially after the big deal all the actors made about this being the end of their characters, and James Gunn openly saying Feige gave him his blessing to off any character he wanted. That was my one major complaint after watching this. They set themselves up to take that leap and didn’t do it.

@vegetaray - The actors said this was their last time playing the characters, not the end of their characters. And James Gunn wrote the story long before that press tour. Your complaint is apt, especially given the misdirection they knew they were doing, but it's still a matter of you being disappointed over what you were expecting over what you were given.

Both after-credit scenes felt unneccesary and Gunn lied, the movie was a good 10 minutes too long.

Great film, great villain. But in not too long, there will be cohorts of a-holes bragging the film is crap because of a/ too much and/or bad humor, b/ bad characterisation of Adam Warlock...

@CapA - does not liking a movie make someone an asshole? Bad humor, bad characterization, and no meaningful consequences sounds like a bad movie to me. If not bad, totally forgettable

@KaioKen - Nitpicking/blowing out of proportion certain points for the sake of being contrarian is something usually seen around here... And it was GotG references.
