BOX OFFICE: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Now 2014's Second Highest Grossing Movie

Guardians of the Galaxy (the movie that many predicted would be Marvel's first flop) continues to go from strength to strength as it has now become the second highest grossing movie worldwide of 2014. Hit the jump for details and all of the latest figures...

This weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy become the second highest grossing movie of 2014 at the worldwide box office with over $765.1 million in total so far. It took that position from Disney's Maleficent starring Angeline Jolie, and has easily surpassed the hauls of better known comic book movie franchises like X-Men: Days of Future Past, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Still #1? Transformers: Age of Extinction, a movie it's hard to imagine being topped this year thanks to the $1.087 billion the Michael Bay helmed release has so far grossed.

With $329.3 million at the domestic box office, Guardians of the Galaxy is still easily the highest grossing movie of the year, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier in second place with $259.7 million. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits on May 5th, 2017.
