Dave Bautista Isn't Worried If He Gets Fired For Speaking Out Over Disney Firing James Gunn

During a new interview, Dave Bautista has talked more about James Gunn being fired as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's director and makes it abundantly clear he's not worried about losing his job or money.

The entire Guardians of the Galaxy cast penned an open letter in support of fired director James Gunn but Dave Bautista hasn't shied away from tearing into Disney both on social media and in interviews. Now, the wrestler turned actor has weighed in why he's been so vocal and made it clear that he's not actually too concerned about any sort of repercussions, including being fired as Drax in the MCU.

"I’m aware that this could possibly cost me a job I care for very much, but at the same time it’s an integrity issue, it’s a loyalty issue," he said, referring to Gunn. "So I’m not going to bite my tongue for anything, that’s just who I am as a person. I’ve tried to actually be very choosy about what I say and the way I say it. I don’t necessarily mean to be disrespectful but at the same time, I have to say what is on my mind and in my heart. I’ve just been honest." Honestly, it's pretty hard to fault that!

Despite the role meaning a lot of him, Bautista concluded by saying that if he does lose his job and other studios are reluctant to hire him, he can cope. "It is what it is if it costs me a job that’s just what happens. I always think as it like you can’t threaten a poor man with poverty. I grew up poor, I know what is like. I’m not afraid of losing money, It means nothing to me. I will wrestle in backyards in front of 10 people if I have to make a living. I’m not going to be flexible with my integrity."

Marvel has recast characters in the past, including The Hulk and War Machine so it's not outside the realm of possibility that we could see a new Drax. With any luck, though, Bautista will stick around because it's now very hard to imagine anyone else in the role when he's so endlessly entertaining!

I’ve been saying he doesn’t care about getting fired. When James Gunn directs another movie, Dave will go with him

I respect his position but at some point he’s gotta move on. Whether Disney keeps him around on not.

James Gunn moved on on the day or the day after his firing. You should too Dave.

I'm sure they're working on how to release him. They all get brought back but still Thanos claims some casualties in the end.

The only person worried about Dave Bautista getting fired is Wilding because he won’t be able to milk this story anymore.

@DR3D - I take it you haven't seen all the other sites that are constantly reporting on everything that Bautista says about this whole situation?

@CorndogBurglar - yep there are bottom-feeders everywhere, when has that ever changed.

@DR3D - That's true. But then why specifically call out Josh as if he's the only person reporting on this?

Why doesn’t he just quit outright instead of talking shit 24/7?

Serious question. Would y'all rather have Drax be recasted for GOTG3, or have his story arc end in A4 (by death or simply leaving the team).

I'm on the fence. But I feel it'd be a lot more comfortable for the fans if they just wrote Drax off.

@KWilly - yeah the latter for me. To be honest, in the MCU he's pretty much a comedy side kick. I enjoy him for what he is, but it would be easy and clean to just kill him off.

Gotta give him credit for speaking his mind. But really, I think he even sees that Drax can only go so far at this point after Thanos is done. So he really is in the idgaf mode now Gunn is out.

It’s weird that Batista is the only one still complaining about this.
It’s weird that no directors came to defend Gunn.
It’s weird that no producers came to defend Gunn.
Its weird that no writers came to defend Gunn.
If James was such a good guy why isn’t anyone else still talking about this besides his little pet “Batista”?
