The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is set to be released on Disney+ this Christmas, with writer and director James Gunn confirming that it will be the same length as a regular TV special. This suggests a runtime of between 30 minutes and an hour, while the filmmaker would later note that the story takes place between the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the upcoming Vol. 3.

That means this story could take place shortly before Avengers: Infinity War, though we'd bet on it being after Avengers: Endgame based on Gunn's comments that we'll meet some new characters.

Either way, these set photos appear to confirm that The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will take place on Earth. In the images below, Christmas decorations can be seen adorning houses in Beverly Hills, while seats have been attached to an upside-down police car. Could that be Rocket's work?

We don't know what's going on here, but there are rumblings online that Kevin Bacon might somehow be involved. The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has mentioned him on numerous occasions, so the team visiting him in this Holiday Special might be a fun payoff to a long-running MCU gag.

Check out these set photos from The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special below:

@DemonTweeks - I’m thinking Kevin Bacon needs to make a cameo in GOTGv3 if he’s not in the Xmas special.

I really like both Guardians movies, so looking forward. With Gunn is hard to predict what will happen, which is a plus in my opinion.

On my list of Marvel movies, "Guardians" has always been in the middle to lower end of the pack. Gunn has been a little hit and miss for me. But I loved his "Peacemaker" series, which says a lot since I am admittedly Marvel biased. So my hope are up for this Christmas special where initially I had little interest in at all. Fingers crossed.

For those complaining that the Guardians are going back to earth just answer this for me… is there Christmas in space??

Maybe just for Quill and Danvers.

@slickrickdesigns - The Puritans left England and eventually found their way to North America to get away from Christmas, managed to hold it back for like a hundred years but now we have like four months of it.

Christmas is an invasive species. Yondu probably "celebrated" it for Quill and infected the rest of the universe with it.

Btw I’m guessing this is just the location where someone is telling a Christmas story… now the real question is, who will narrate the story?

...is this article a joke?

In that case I'm guessing the story will at least partially focus on Peter reuniting with his human family on Earth, which is something a lot of people have wanted to see (especially since Endgame) but probably wouldn't fit into a movie yet lends itself very well to a shorter, Christmas-themed episode.

Earth isn't an unexpected location. Arrakis would be an unexpected location.

My guess is this special is about introducing Sam Alexander (Nova).
