James Gunn introduced the world to a new megastar in Daniela Melchior when he cast the relatively unknown actress as Ratcatcher 2 in The Suicide Squad, and she's now set to make the leap to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has now wrapped, but photos Melchior shared to social media undergoing some early prosthetics work a while back have once again come under close scrutiny. As a result, there's renewed speculation all over social media that Gunn might have cast her to play Moondragon in the Marvel Studios threequel.
It would be awesome to see, but the director has now debunked those claims!
In the comic books, Moondragon is the daughter of Drax (there's a lot more to it than that, but trust us when we say it gets really complicated). She's also a powerful telekinetic and telepath, and has a history with the Infinity Stones, not to mention ties to the Guardians and Adam Warlock
It's a shame Melchior won't be playing Moondragon, though we're sure Gunn has found a great role for her in this conclusion to the trilogy that kicked off with 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy. What that will be remains to be seen, of course, and we can only speculate for the time being.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 5, 2023.
