As seen in this trailer, Sam and Dean Winchester reunite after Dean and Castiel were teleported to Purgatory at the end of the last season. Even though we won't know how Dean escaped until far into the season, we can be sure to expect plenty of twists and turns in this new season. During Comic-Con, new showrunner Jeremy Carver stated "They are just as open to new relationships and beginnings and endings as anyone else in the world. They're going to have to come to terms, like any partnership, with dealing with the new relationship in each other's life.", and the trailer definitely makes it seem like the Sam and Dean bond will be further explored. Anywho, check out the awesome trailer below!

It does remind me of Seasons 4 & 6 a bit, but CLOSING THE GATES OF HELL!?!?!?! HELL YEAH!!!!!! I am so pumped for this show to be back! Between Supernatural, Arrow, Fringe, The Walking Dead, Young Justice: Invasion, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, I've got my year covered!

I recently finished watching Season 5. Is it worth continuing the series after that? Right now I'm leaning towards ignoring the last part of the last scene and just consider the story to be over.

After season 5 the reins got passed over to a new showrunner, and honestly it feels a lot like fanfiction. Very little restraint . . . it's almost never scary anymore, and a lot of the stuff with the characters feels like they've de-volved from the development that has happened in season 1-5. I generally thing that the 6th season was pretty bad, the 7th was better but still nothing compared to the first 5. We'll see about the next. I watch it (obviously), but consider the newer seasons to be less "canon" than the original 5.

Maybe that'll help you choose if you want to keep going.

This looks like a retread of the beginning of Season Four. Only this time Dean was in Purgatory instead of Hell. They even recycled the getting sprayed with water joke.

They're just spinning the wheels. Stick a fork in it.

@Kyos - it's worth watching the first 3 minutes of season 6 because it has the perfect montage of Dean's new life without Sam.

Don't bother watching after that, the rest of season 6 and 7 is like sniktsnakt said, it's like watching badly written fan-fiction. Way too much tongue in cheek humour and characters hamming up their performances.

Though I will always love this show, it really should have ended after Season 5. You know, the season Kripke originally planned it to end. Season 6 was fine, but this last season...I think I made it 2/3rds in before checking out.

@Kyos Consider the story over, dude. You'll be happier for it.

@everyone

Thanks for the input, folks! Sounds like it's really the best not to continue watching after what was clearly meant to be the finale of the whole show.

A friend introduced me to Supernatural earlier this year, and I liked it way better than I'd have thought. I'd seen some random episodes before, and it didn't appeal to me, but watching it from the beginning this time I got hooked after a few episodes. All in all a really fun show with great characters! Too bad they seemingly didn't manage to just end it when it was over.

I'll be watching when it premieres, but like everybody said, the show really should've ended after season five. I can only really think of a handful of episodes from seasons six and seven that I liked.

WOOO!!!! SEASON 8 FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And you dummies who keep making that season five claim really don't know what you're talking about. Kripke never meant to end the story with Sam in Hell, that was an ending he came up with for hat single season when he found out that the show had been renewed once more. It's ignorant to keep talking about a story's eneding when you don't know all the details behind the scenes.

@SamWinchester

I'm aware that were plans to keep the show running after season five, my opinion (and I guess the opinion of a lot of other posters on here) is that the show's quality dipped following Kripke's departure. I still like a few episodes in the last two seasons ("Weekend at Bobby's" was awesome) but generally they aren't as good as the first five seasons.

@kyos season 6 is pretty slow and is in my opinion the weakest so far but gets better near the end. season 7 i thought was great. It combined the short single episodes with a larger story pretty well. There are some great episodes in season 7 as well. I didnt care much for the end of season 5 either could have been much better considering the build up. Last episode of season 6 is great as well.

As someone who has watched the show since day one I can agree with a lot of the statements made here. But because I'm currently working on season 8 I can tell you that the new showrunner is actually doing a great job. Currently read almost all the scripts for this season and it's gonna be cool again.

@COmicsFan

I get what you're saying, especially about season seven more-so than season six which I thought was awesome, but I think that the story was crafted that way on purpose. According to Sera Gamble at the 2011 Paleyfest, the series is still using Kripke's original plan and the original ending that he had in mind will be used at the end of the tenth season (which is pretty much a done deal at this point since the show is so lucrative to the WB). Kripke's original plan is still in use contrary to popular belief. He just wanted to go on to do "Revolution," that's all.

You guys just have to be patient. The series is still one of the best on TV - especially after the season seven finale and "Born Again Identity" are considered, which most fans thought was excellent. And judging from the new trailer, Jeremy Carver looks like he's seriously on his "A"-game.

Season seven just hasn't been put into context yet and it'll all make alot more sense in season eight.

should have Stopped When Kripke Left.

Now all that's left is this foul husk.
