"They're heeeeere!" Maddie (Kennedi Clements) begins to say the famous line in this TV spot, before being yanked away by an unseen force. The ominous voice-over proclaims "there are ghost stories; and then there's Poltergeist", but can this remake live up to the original?

Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (producer) reimagines and contemporizes the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is invaded by angry spirits. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and take the youngest daughter, the family must come together to rescue her.

Poltergeist was originally set to be released on July 24th, but it will now be with us on May 22nd

@RorMachine you could get away with a lot with a pg 13 back then. While you still can even to this day people have become more sensitive you can't go as far. So not sure if its a great idea or not (aside from a money thing) to make this pg 13

"...but can this remake live up to the original?"

We visited with the tallest doctor in Los Angeles to ask him if you could recreate something as iconic as Poltergeist.

The Poltergeist movies from the 80's has always interested me. THe sequels were unnecessary but the original is a CLASSIC. I'll give the show a chance, If it's lame, than I just won't watch it.

The original was actually PG (mind you in those days they didn't have a PG 13 age restriction) ...the problem I have is this seems like a full blown "horror film" whereas even as a kid I never considered it a horror film... To me it's more of a fantasy film with horror elements...I love he original but I will probably give this a try out of curiosity...

I'd rather see a special edition of the original Poltergeist with enhanced special effects than a remake. Scarface could be watchable again with a more classical sounding underscore (although Pacino's accent is pretty horrible). Instead, we are likely getting remakes that will pay homage to the iconic moments of the original films with a very watered down, unoriginal feel to them. Remakes should be for films that failed but had great potential, or for films that don't resonate with audiences anymore. I can only think of a few remakes that blew the original away. True Grit stands out. Captain America TFA definitely stands out. We'll have to wait and see if Craig T. Nelson rolling an old B&W Tv out of a hotel room can be done better by Raimi & crew. If its anything like the Evil Dead remake, i don't foresee repeat viewings
