Ghostbusters: Afterlife is now playing in theaters (you might have to wait until tomorrow in certain locations), so we're taking a closer look at some of the long-awaited sequel's biggest moments, starting with the return of a few familiar faces.

If you haven't watched Afterlife yet, beware of major spoilers from this point on.

Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts) shows up at the beginning of the movie for a brief scene shortly after Callie (Carrie Coon) and her family arrive at her father's farmhouse.

When the ectoplasm really starts to hit the fan in the town of Summerville, Phoebe (McKenna Grace) calls the old Ghostbusters number from the original '80s advert and gets through to Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), who is now running an occult artefact store. Ray explains that the team broke up when Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) took all of their equipment and left without a word decades earlier. He is sad to learn that his old friend has passed away, however, and Phoebe tells him that she's Egon's granddaughter before they're cut off.

Later, during the movie's climactic battle against Gozer the Gozerian (an uncredited Olivia Wilde), Ray shows up alongside Peter Venkman (Billy Murray) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) for a rematch ("Hey flattop, did you miss us?") The Ghostbusters find themselves outmatched until Phoebe, guided by the spirit of Egon, adds her Proton Stream to the mix and they finally manage to defeat The Destroyer.

Egon then bids an emotional final farewell (the character never actually speaks) to his family and friends before departing for the afterlife. The movie ends with the caption, "For Harold..." It's a touching moment and a fitting sendoff for the character and the actor, but bringing the late Harold Ramis back in CGI form is bound to be divisive.

Sigourney Weaver also returns as Dana Barrett, but only for one of the post-credits scenes (more on them later).

Have you guys been to see Ghostbusters: Afterlife yet? If so, how do you think the classic characters' returns were handled? Drop us a comment down below, and check out our review of the movie here.
