What follows is the official announcement:

Syfy is ordering a second season of its new hit drama series Being Human, it was announced today by Mark Stern President of Original Content, Syfy and Co-Head of Original Content, Universal Cable Productions. Since the show’s January 17 launch, premiere episodes of Being Human have averaged 1.8 million viewers making it Syfy’s most successful winter season scripted series launch in 6 years. Also, with women comprising 53% of the total audience for premiere episodes, it is the channel’s most female-skewing scripted series ever.

Through its first nine weeks on Syfy, and including repeat broadcasts, Being Human has been seen by 19.1 million total unique viewers.

“’Being Human’ has proven to be a winner for Syfy on all fronts,” said Stern. “Using the original format as inspiration, showrunners/writers Jeremy Carver and Anna Fricke – along with a superlative team of writers, cast, and production – have created an amazing, compelling series in its own right. We can't wait to watch Aidan, Josh and Sally continue their struggle to be human in the second season!”

Being Human stars Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath, Sam Huntington and Mark Pellegrino and is a Muse Entertainment production in association with Zodiak USA. It is based on the acclaimed series, Being Human, created by Toby Whithouse and produced by Touchpaper Television, part of Zodiak Media Group.

In Being Human, leading everyday lives is a lot harder than it looks for three supernatural roommates – vampire Aidan (Witwer), ghost Sally (Rath) and werewolf Josh (Huntington) – who share their secrets and a Boston brownstone. Together they learn that there are fates worse than death and more to life – and the afterlife – than most "normal" humans could ever imagine.

Executive Producers are Michael Prupas (The Kennedys, Pillars of the Earth), Jeremy Carver (Supernatural) and Anna Fricke (Men in Trees, Everwood) who are both writers/showrunners, and Rob Pursey and Toby Whithouse. Irene Litinsky is series Producer and Adam Kane (The Mentalist, Heroes) is Co-Executive Producer.

FIRST

ive watched both and the british is 100% better, now im probably biased because im english. but they just have better stories, character development and just seem to focus on relationships aswell as plot twists and story lines, which is what i find the US counter part to be missing

The American verison is more or less a guilty pleasure mainly cuz I think Meaghan and that red-headed chick are pretty hot. Everything else is just meh.

Not seen the US version is it any good because the Original(british) version is one of the finest tv shows in the UK with out a doubt. The season finale was killer, never melt so emotional about tv show before. Being Human definitely gives Vampires and Werewolves a good name.

i just hate when great British Shows need to remade to American version. the studios should just release the British version over there.

This makes me very happy. I love this show. I tune in every Monday night and gave only missed 1 episode. I also have seasons 1 and 2 of the BBC original series. Both versions are great in their own right and have given classic monster fans on the the best takes on werewolves, vampires, and ghosts in years.

I'm American and I saw the British version first. I really like the British version. And it doesn't hurt that Lenora Crichlow is in it, but I think that the U.S. version has taken on a life of its own. The British version IS better, but the American version IS a really close second and Meaghan Rath is really cute. IMO.

The US version is not worthy of sharing the same name as the far superior British original.

'Nuff said. :)

Not a really a fan of the show, mostly because I spend too much time comparing to the British version. It's starting to grow on me though.

@Oreos Yes, it was amazing. This would normally be the point where I go off on rant about what happened, but I think I'll just give a nod and a smile and leave it at that. Can't wait for series 4!

Why do people keep calling it the US version?.. The show is CANADIAN. It films in Canada, and it is made by a Canadian production company. It is just set in the United States.
I like both versions though, the Canadian slightly better.

Jagfan28

@patriautism The show may be filmed in Canada and produced by a Canadian production company, but the reason they film and produce it in Canada is because it is far cheaper to use Canadian resources rather than American.

yes! I'm happy to see most in here are bigger fans of the British (original/better) version. I LOVE BBC's Being Human, one of my favorite shows out to date. I dunno...it has less.."gloss" on it. If that explains anything?

I've watched the SyFy version, and personally...I can't stand it. I too maybe biased because I've been following the original since it premiered, but..I dunno.

@Jagfan28 What are you talking about? Being made by a Canadian production company means it is made by Canadians in Canada.
What do you think production company means?
You're thinking of when a US production company films in Canada, that would still be a US series.
In this instance it is made by Canadians, filmed, and distributed in Canada, but also distributed in the US. That makes it a CANADIAN or North American series, not US.

In fact, if you would look at it's imdb page, it lists the origin country for the series as Canada, not the US..

Yes great show.I too saw the UK version first on BBCA and was greatly concerned when I heard Syfy was creating an american version. You know how we like to frak up good shows.Luckily for everyone Syfy has done a great job spinning their own take of Being Human.Subtle differences in plots keep the US version fresh for those who have seen the UK version.Top show indeed.

@patriautism anybody can edit IMDB
patriautism
patriautism - 3/17/2011, 5:03 PM
@IrfonW Doesn't change the fact that it is made by the Canadian production company MUSE Entertainment and filmed in Canada, which makes it Canadian.
So in this case imdb was edited correctly.

MUSE Entertainment's website if you don't believe me..http://www.muse.ca/4105/fiche.asp?id=190

British version is of course better, I hated the American one...I've noticed that most American TV is extremley cheesey. Why is that? Most actors are either over the top or don't emote enough? And the dialouge always comes across as cheap, I'm not biased though, don't get me wrong there are some great American shows like Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, True Blood etc it's just a good majority of it sucks. Why not just bring out the British one? It's got far better actors in it and it's way more intelligent.

ive seen both shows and i must say the american version dosent do it justice......but it doesnt do it a diservice either.....i think the british version focuses more on the plot whereas the american version focuses more on the visual asspects as well as keeping it tv friendly

I love how in the article they credited writers....but they missed out the most important writer on the new ORIGINAL U.S. series ... Xerox 4595 ha!

But seriously why remake these fantastic shows? Being Human, Life on Mars...wtf.

btw Life on Mars US was beyond goddamn awful.
