Oh, bother.

We reported on this a few months ago when a bunch of promo stills made waves in the horror community, and the first full trailer for bonkers-looking indie horror flick Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey has now been released.

The teaser begins with Christopher Robin bringing his girlfriend back to 100 Acre Wood to meet some old friends of his, but the adorable stuffed animals he once knew are long gone, and the now bloodthirsty versions of Pooh and Piglet decide to deal with their abandonment issues in the most gruesome way possible!

Winnie the Pooh entered the public domain earlier this year, which means Walt Disney Co. can no longer lay sole claim to the character. Filmmaker Rhys Frake-Waterfield has taken full advantage by putting a mallet in Pooh's hand and turning him into a remorseless killer.

Described as "a grisly retelling of the Winnie the Pooh legend," Blood and Honey follows Pooh and Piglet as they go on a murderous rampage. Tigger and Eeyore will not appear because of a rights issue, but the director recently implied that the pair may have eaten their donkey pal when driven into a feeding frenzy.

“Because they’ve had to fend for themselves so much, they’ve essentially become feral,” Waterfield explained to Variety. “So they’ve gone back to their animal roots. They’re no longer tame: they’re like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey.”

Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think in the usual spot.

Bring on Mickey Mouse going into the public domain

Why are they hillbillies with rubber masks on and not a bear and boar, or even stuffed animals come to life?

@Chewtoy - Budget most likely

@ComicBookPsycho - Yeah, but it almost sounds like an idea out of "Fables" when the people involved talk about them like they're a real bear and pig that went feral. It almost seems like a there's a kernel of a legitimate idea that way.

But then it's clearly just a random slasher film where one guy wears a vague Pooh-ish rubber mask. They don't even bother to disguise their human hands or anything that makes me think they're supposed to be anything other than hillbillies in Halloween masks.

For that kind of lazy effort, I either expected the film to look even cheaper, or to use a backstory like "Christopher Robin is the killer in a rubber Pooh mask."

@Chewtoy - It was done because Pooh became public domain. No other reason. No story to tell, no desire to do anything cool or interesting.

@Reeds2Much - Didn’t know you had that much power. I may have to get with you the next time I want to see something green lit.🤣

@Reeds2Much - I for one thank you! Now if you don't mind asking for Curious George going full "Gordy" on the man with the yellow hat, I will be forever in your debt!

Would've been kinda funny if they treated it like a legit adaptation of Winnie the pooh until the twist like half way through. Now it's just a boring generic horror movie.

Looks so bad that'll be good for some laughs at least.

Who knew Winnie The Pooh was a guy in a cheap Bear mask all along! The stuff you see in movies when you get older... I never noticed that one as a kid that's for sure.

This doesn’t look good. But is Winny the Pooh public domain? I thought Disney had the rights.

This is the type of movie that it's so bad, it could be good, but actually has a high chance of ending up being really [frick]ing bad.

I'm not saying this looks good, but it doesn't look as bad as I was expecting either.

It looks good in the right ways. Hoping for a cheap Tigger puppet, or better yet a cgi model, shows up too.

@Spike101 - "Warped weirdoes" is all modern Hollywood is full of. They're goal is to tear down tradition, destroy your heroes, and pervert what was once decency.

We are clearly in the demoralization phase of the planned collapse of Western culture.

@Feralwookiee - Have you ever read some of Grimm's Fairytales? Like, the real ones? In one the earliest versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears the bears set her on fire.
Razorface1
Razorface1 - 9/1/2022, 8:00 PM
@Reeds2Much - The Grimms did not write those stories, they took preexisting stories and "darkened" them.
