A first look at an upcoming indie horror flick, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, was revealed earlier today, and it has a doozy of a premise.

Winnie the Pooh and Piglet go on a blood-soaked murder rampage after Christopher Robin decides to abandon them without food.

"Because they’ve had to fend for themselves so much, they’ve essentially become feral,” director Rhys Waterfield explains to Variety. “So they’ve gone back to their animal roots. They’re no longer tame: they’re like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey.”

Winnie The Pooh entered the public domain earlier this year, which means Walt Disney Co. can no longer lay sole claim to the forgetful little bear. Waterfield has now decided to take full advantage by putting a mallet in Pooh's hand and turning him into a remorseless killer.

Details on the project are few and far between, but Dread Central is reporting that this indie flick will be "a grisly retelling of the Winnie the Pooh legend" starring Amber Doig-Thorne, Maria Taylor and Danielle Scott.

Check out some official promo stills - which also feature a twisted version of Piglet - below.

@cyclopstb - Pinnochio's Revenge, Gretel & Hansel, and so many others. It's so bizarre when a grown adult looks at a child's character and wants to make it edgy and for adults.

I'm certain that they just took some generic slasher script and added the Pooh gimmick as an attention grabber.

A story of missing children would be better and Christopher Robin is the first victim. Our adorable little friends guide the children of an English country town into the woods. A forest that for centuries has starred in dark legends and children enter it never to return. the Hundred Acre Woods.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 5/27/2022, 12:59 AM
I never understood the fascination with turning Children's characters into deranged murderers hell bent on killing people. Pinnochio's revenge comes to mind. It was so awful and was made more for shock value than adding anything original. They could have easily called this film Blood & Honey and made it an original horror film but no....they attached Winnie the Pooh to it to gain media coverage and ruffle some feathers.

This might be the very worst idea I have heard in a long time.

Is there no AA Milne estate or something? How does Pooh bear become public domain? I don't get it. And I certainly don't like it.

@TheManWithoutFear - you'd think people would fight tooth and nail for that copyright.
Mrcool210
Mrcool210 - 5/30/2022, 6:14 AM
@TheManWithoutFear - Sadly no matter what estate might exist it became public domain just because the copyright finally ran out. Sure we're getting awful terrible stupid things like this. But we may also get new nice things too.

I'm more so interested when batman and superman become public domain.
TheManWithoutFear
TheManWithoutFear - 5/30/2022, 6:23 AM
@Mrcool210 - Is that something that can happen? Surely DC own that IP for ever and ever? What about the likes of Spider-Man at Marvel?
Mrcool210
Mrcool210 - 5/30/2022, 10:29 AM
@TheManWithoutFear - Nope the way us copyright works 96 years after something is published no matter who has the copyright it becomes public domain. So while it will take a good while for spider man and most of Marvels big characters to become public domain, Batman, superman and captain America will become public domain in the 2030s. Where as Mickey's gonna become public domain in 2024
