Ruben Fleischer has been busy at work on Sony's
Venom movie, but after that hits theaters in October, the director will turn his attention towards the highly anticipated
Zombieland sequel.
The long-awaited sequel to the post-apocalyptic horror comedy was
finally greenlit earlier this year and given an October 11, 2019 release date. But since that announcement back in July, we haven't heard much about the film - until this week. Speaking with Fandango in an interview primarily focused on
Venom, Fleischer was asked about the current status of the
Zombieland sequel.
I'm thrilled. We're already actually starting Zombieland. I've been scouting and storyboarding and getting it going, and to get to work with that cast again is just an absolute dream come true. It's been really exciting starting to think about that movie, and to get to work with Emma, Jesse, Woody and Abigail once again is truly a dream come true. Yeah, we're just at the very early stages, but we have an amazing script, and we're going to start shooting in Georgia in January.
Not much is known about the sequel, but we do know quite a bit of time has passed since we last saw Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock. Asked if we should expect a lot more zombies, Fleischer teased:
"Yeah. I mean, it's been 10 years, so who knows what the world will look like at this point?"
Pretty exciting stuff and I'm sure we'll hear more as we get closer to the actual start of production. The core cast and production crew will be returning for the sequel, including the entire principal cast of Woody Harrelson (Tallahassee), Jesse Eisenberg (Columbus), Emma Stone (Wichita), and Abigail Breslin (Little Rock). Ruben Fleischer will return to the director's chair with a script from original Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.
