According to Deadline, Marvel Studios has found a screenwriter to pen the screenplay for the Shane Black-directed third Iron Man installment. A screenwriter familiar with the studio, the site reports:

Drew Pearce has been chosen by Marvel Studios to write Iron Man 3. Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his signature Tony Stark role, and Marvel recently locked Downey's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang helmer Shane Black to direct. Pearce jumps on one of Marvel's biggest hits, and I'm told he will start from scratch and work closely with Black.

Pearce apparently landed the gig from writing the screenplay for Marvel's now-delayed Runaways, which followed children of super villains who use their evil powers for heroic purposes. Other credits include No Heroics, a British superhero-comedy television series, which began on 18 September 2008. What do you think?

Anyhow, Iron Man 3 is slated for theaters May 3, 2013, presumably as Marvel's 2nd flick under Walt Disney's distribution.

I know that guy and he's primarily a comedy writer. He wrote that British series, No Heroics and the pilot for the American version.

I've got to say, I'm not too keen on this news.I was hoping they'd get a writer who was more adept at action or science fiction. Not one who has only done comedy.

And what happened to Black writing?Just 3 weeks ago he confirmed he was writing the script. It's very odd to hire a director who is mainly know for his screenwriting and not let him write it.

I'm willing to give him a chance. He has experience as a writer and he'll be working closely with the man Marvel chose to direct the film, so I'm optimistic.

you honestly think blacks not going to be involved with the writing process, this dude might not have a experience writing action black does. He's not going to step back and let some one else do it entirely. and they should just make the Runaways in to a TV show it would work much better that way.

@Xenix he's already written the script for runaways

I really like Shane Black's idea of re-grounding it in reality, and if this writer can follow than vision and they're on the same page, more power to him.

I'd prefer if they stayed away from "grounding it" and realism, and have Iron Man fight Fin Fang Foom and The Mandarin.

JUST DON'T MESS IT UP. NO REBOOTING, NO PERSONALITY FIDDLING, THE WAY FAV DID IT WAS GOOD, DONT....DON'T MESS IT UP..! YEAH PARTS OF IRON MAN ARE FUNNY BUT THE WHOLE MOVIE IS NOT A COMEDY..THE 3RD MOVIE CURSE REARS ITS UGLY HEAD IF YOU EFF THIS UP.

CaptainOtter:"I really like Shane Black's idea of re-grounding it in reality"

Especially after seeing Iron Man in a movie with the God of Thunder, the incredible HULK and a guy preserved from the 1930s'. And possibly aliens. Yeah, good luck.

GUNSMITH Stark really needs to grow up. I can't stress enough how I want to finally see Stark more stern and in command. Comedy is inevetable, but everything Stark says and does doesn't have to be a one-liner.

Yup, what PartyHard said!

It's a shame things haven't at least setup for the Mandarin from the second movie, but it is what it is. I'd just hate to see them close out the last movie with so much realism all we see him take down is an angry terrorist group or something. I don't know a lot about Iron Man's villains and odds are I probably won't be able to pick up a lot of comics on him anytime soon. With that said, I had hoped the movies would be able to introduce me to the character from the comics more, including his villains. Especially the Mandarin and more the world in which Tony Stark lives in.

If this were Fox the fanboys like Marvel72 and Darkmatter would be screaming rape right now, but Marvel can do no wrong amirite?

With Tony "re-discovering" that new element in pt 2, could it should factor into part 3? It's a new tech breakthrough that Mandarin wants, maybe? If Tony tries to change the world with it, it could really mirror the recent Resilient arc, which might i add is also roping in the Mandarin.

Why don't Marvel call Daniel and Charlie Knaufs of Carnival? They wrote a very spectacular Mandarin recently.

I looooved that Haunted arc! Its a brilliant way to introduce both Extremis AND the Mandarin, they'd be silly to ignore that story when thinking about how to go about it.

Yeah xcrementus. That's what I'm talking about.

xcrementus
xcrementus - 3/31/2011, 8:00 PM
like a combination of Haunted and Extremis. The Ten Rings infiltrate the Extremis program and ultimately steal it. Mandarin wants to hold the world hostage and/or modify himself, and the only way to fight Mandarin's crazy ring tech is to use the Extremis on himself, risking death, and meld the suit to his body.

Throw in a Justin Hammer revenge plot, and you're golden!

Thor, Cap, and Avengers should open up the door for a less "grounded" Iron Man film. I just hope he doesn't fight another robot :P

No
Villians using Stark tech and their own Iron Man suit. This has been done twice. There are TWO Iron Man movies. Stop it.

Tony Stark, the comedian. Like I said, comedy is inevitable. But Stark needs to mature a little at this point.

Yes
The Manderin. Perfect time to present this Iron Man foe. Now that Iron Man exist in a world where Asgard is real, the Manderin shouldn't be limited to technological power, but have mystical powers... if it works.

xcrementus - 3/31/2011, 8:49 PM
this movie should have, like, fifteen thousand robots! with an army of didjeridoos! lol

Even if you ease off the reality, getting the audience to buy that Mandarin just found a bunch of magic rings in an alien spaceship would be a tall order.

I always thought having Mandarin get his powers from the Extremis would be a cool idea. He'd just hack his own DNA code to become the most powerful warlord on Earth.
JohnTom88
JohnTom88 - 3/31/2011, 9:02 PM
Mandarin and Nefaria should be the next Iron Man villains.

Iron Man need superpowered smart men as his enemies, not dumb guys in suit of armors.

BRING ON THE PEOPLE FROM THE FIRST MOVIE. THE REASON WHY THE 2ND MOVIE FAILED IS BECAUSE OF THE FAGGOT SCRIPT WRITER. WE NEED THE PEOPLE WHO WORKED ON THE FIRST ONE.

Mandarin please.

I have no problem with a "more grounded" Iron Man. Just have a more tech based Mandarin, rather than a magic based Mandarin. Seriously, we've had two films, in a row mind you, of rock-em sock-em robots with IM. It's time for a different kind of fight.

dancingmonkey08 - 4/1/2011, 12:33 PM
Mandarin and the Ten Rings please! After Stark wiped out a contingent of them in the first movie, they gave Whiplash a fake ID and tickets to Monaco in exchange for Arc Reactor technology so they can build their own suits to take on Iron Man in IM3 but for once the armored villains are just lackeys and Mandarin is the main villain

Who, whoa, whoa. A script? For an Iron Man movie? That's crazy talk. Just turn on the camera, pull Downey's string and let him go. Worked great for Iron Man 2, right?

Oh right. Iron Man 2 blew.
DEFENDER

ironman 2 failed because of too much exposure of robert downey and not enough of his alter ego ironman.too much screen time focused on the actor's face because he is a bigname actor.

DEFENDER - 4/3/2011, 7:28 AM
when making superhero movies, movie makers show too much of the actor & less of the title character because the actor only want's to be seen. screw that! i paid to see ironman not robert downey. the movie is called ironman for god sake let me watch ironman.
