Iron Man 3 Gets A Release Date

Coming off the news of Disney/Marvel and Paramount's new distribution deal, we now have an official release date for the third installment in Jon Favreau's Iron Man franchise..

We knew Iron Man 3 was on the cards, but director Jon Favraeu hasn't said much about it so far. Now we have some news, with Disney acquiring the distribution rights, and now the official release date of May 3rd 2013.

All that we know about the plot of the third movie is that it will (most likely) feature The Mandarin as the villain. Jon Favreau has said of the character..

"You've got to do the Mandarin. The problem with the Mandarin is that the way it's depicted in the comic books, you don't want to see that. He has 10 magical rings — that just doesn't feel right for our franchise. So it's either tech-based, or the rings are not really rings. But maybe with 'Thor' and all those others, you'll introduce magic to that world and it won't seem so out of place."

RDJ has a long time of work then lol. 2011 filming The Avengers, then Next year filming Iron Man 3, then prolly Sherlock Holmes 3. I hope, that just like Iron Man and Iron Man 2, it comes here 1 week before there on usa :P.
I hope The Mandarin to be the villain.

I really don't think having Manderin in Iron Man will be a problem once Thor comes out. All you need is a new way of explaining the 10 rings powers source.

It makes sense like Mandarin does seem like more of Thor's villain, so maybe Crimson Dynamo or Titanium Man or Ezekiel Stane

Awesome. It's nice to know that I'll be getting my Marvel movie fix for the next 3 years. Captain America, Thor, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, plus the yet to be announced Marvel superhero films. Hopefully The Avengers is good and does well so we can dive further into the Marvel universe.

I think they are going for a terrorist group organization for the ten rings which would involve leaders from around the globe. The first was from the middle east, and in part two they had a russian guy. Just a thought.

IM2 was a huge disapointment for me, whiplast was basically bitchslapped by iron man,the first fight scene with whiplash was like 4 mins and the second one was just shameful

@Intruder

Jon Favreau said himself he found the rings out of place in Iron Man 3. the rings is alien tech dont think it would be hard to introduce in Iron Man 3 since Thor is going to have magic and science.

the 10 rings were not magical but from an alien race

The rings could come from Odin's pimped out store room. Sounds like a lot of stuff is in there.

Good stuff Ror. I'm psyched even if IM2 was what I'd call so-so. As long as The Mandarin is the villian, I think I'll be happy.

Seems like 2014 would be a logical choice. They shouldn't milk Iron Man too hard, even if he is the most popular at the moment. I assumed Ant-Man/Doctor Strange would be 2013. Nice find though Ror.

Awesome, its great to get a proper release date for it, but the three year wait is gonna be so hard. But I guess we do have Thor, Captain America, the Avengers, Batman and Superman to keep us going until then! And I hope they get an awesome actor to play the Mandarin

Its a day for Robert Downey Jr news today, between Sherlock Holmes 2 starting filming and Iron Man 3 getting a release date! Always look forward to more RDJ movies

@Lucaxmen
your right about him being busy, as long as he isnt overworking himself, I look forward to him completing the Iron Man trilogy, Sherlock Holmes trilogy and hopefully not being too old to complete a Avengers trilogy by around hopefully 2018 to 2020

@josh
I hope your right that there is more Marvel movies out that year, Cap, Thor or Hulk sequels or even a new Marvel character

@brazilianbatman
Its perfect time for Mandarin to be the villain, this will probably be the last Iron Man movie anyway, best to tie up all the loose ends but I do agree with you, maybe they should of put another reference to the Ten Rings in Iron Man 2 (rather than some of the pointless stuff they put in it, imo)

And no more guys in armor fighting Iron Man, this franchise could get repetitive fast

@villain01
Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr have declared that Iron Man 3 is out in 2013, so that immediately stops the end of the world lol

plus I have biscuits that have a best before date in 2013, so the world cant possibly be ending lol

Any sufficiently different or advanced society's technology would appear to be magic, so adapting the Mandarin shouldn't be too hard (As long as they don't crank the script out over one feverish weekend like they did with Iron Man 2...)
