Robert Downey Jr. Talks IRON MAN 3 And The Success Of MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS

Talking at this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, Robert Downey Jr. talks about meeting the fans, the tone of Iron Man 3 ("We're not as serious as The Dark Knight..."), the success of The Avengers and his plans to do a huge stunt in the highly anticipated threequel.

Talking to journalists at the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Robert Downey Jr. has revealed a few new minor details as to what we should expect in the next highly anticipated Marvel Studios movie. A transcription of the interview has been provided below, although it's well worth fast forwarding to the 1:20 mark when Downey's Due Date co-star Zach Galifianakis crashes the chat with his own question for the actor. Check it out below and be sure to sound off with your thoughts on these comments in the usual place.

"I just like hanging out with the people; they kind of instil me. I feel like I'm at a filling station getting all kind of juice from the fans and then I'm gonna go and put that to use in the second half of the shoot."

"We're not as serious as The Dark Knight, but Tony definitely has, and always has historically in the comic books even more so, his inner demons. We did a little of that in Iron Man 2, but if you think about someone who saw the skies open up and came through a wormhole and fought off alien species, suffice to say he's a little rattled."

"Well, here's my problem. Every time one of my movies comes out, I think it's going to be the #3 biggest movie of all-time. And so, it's really weird, it's like I cried wolf and one actually showed up this time!"

"I dunno, I just said, 'While I'm still physically able, I'd like to leave it all on the field and I would like there to be ten moments where people wonder how I was stupid enough to actually do that stunt.' Most of all me."

Iron-Man is Marvel Studios most successful Charachter! I won't be shocked if he hits the billion dollar mark on his own next year. Most people think Spidey is Marvel's biggest Charachter but lets be serious in the last four years Iron-Man has reached iconic status.

Did you watch the Iron Man 3 panel footage?

Shane Black: RDJ IS Tony Stark!!
RDJ: So you're saying I'm an asshole?

Haha He has made Tony Stark leap off the page. Anyone else trying to be Tony Stark in future movies will always be compared to him. Tough act to follow!

Robert Downey Jr. is to Tony Stark/Iron Man as Christopher Reeve was to Clark Kent/Superman. Hear the character's name from now on, and Downey, like Reeve, is what fans will think of, regardless of who plays him later. I feel bad for the next actor who portrays Stark. He may as well change his middle name to "Not as Good as RDJ."

Not only does he digs the fans, but he also seems to bring the character to life. Do any of remember when Tom (I'm the Omega thetan.....Bitch) Cruise was interested in playing this role. Glad that didn't happen

I love that guy. He's such a great actor, too! All the actors from the MCU have little to worry about in regards to being typecast in the future, you know what I mean?

Watch 'Puncture' with Chris Evans when you can on Netflix Streaming. Great movie and a GREAT performance. I love RDJ in 'The Soloist' and Mark Ruffalo in 'Blindness'. They're all great performances. We're very spoiled fans and it's great to see all of those fun childhood talks of 'how cool would it be if..' coming true.

The man is just awesome he really is. To think of his down points in life and how he bounced back not just as an actor but as a good person is just so great to see. I for just look at him and think, here is someone to aspire to and to be like. RDJ, you're a talented, smart and cool person. Great movies, great interviews, just great all around :)

Was he this cool before IM or did he just take it upon himself to embrace the character to the degree that he now embodies it?

I like Tom Cruise but to think that he was almost IM makes me ill now.
Thank God

Place me in the RDJ Lovefest. This has always been a brilliant talent, going all the way back to Less Than Zero. He's also been equally entertaining in independant fair; One Night Stand. Just this past weekend I marveled at his portrayal of the late, great Charlie Chaplin, in the film, CHAPLIN.
RJD, thanks for bringing Iron Man to life, and making him such an enjoyable, memorable, character.

You can count on one paw of a three-toed sloth the number of celebrities that have the kind of respect and admiration RDJ has from (and gives to) the fans ... and still have one toe left over to pick your nose with.

I want RDJ to come to my town on April 4, because he & I share a birthday. Same year, and everything. There's a great mexican restaurant in town that pretty much lets you eat for free on your birthday. Meal, margarita, fried ice cream at the end--worth the trip! (in case RDJ is reading this. Call me.)
