UPDATE: IRON MAN 3 Takes $64 Million On Saturday; Second Highest Opening Of All-Time
The Avengers is currently the highest opening of all-time in North America, but Iron Man 3 now looks set to knock Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 from second position with an opening weekend of $175 million! Read on for details.
After taking $68.3 million on Friday, Deadline reports that Iron Man 3 went on to earn an additional $64 million yesterday, giving it a current domestic total of over $130 million. That's a drop of only 6% and with another predicted drop of 20% today (Sunday), it's thought that it will eventually go on to have an opening weekend of $171 million - $175 million. This means that the Marvel Studios threequel now holds the honour of being the second biggest three-day opening weekend of all-time, with only The Avengers (which took $207.4 million last year) standing in its way of reaching #1. With an 'A' CinemaScore from moviegoers - perhaps proving that it's only really a very SMALL number of fans who have a problem with the much talked about twist - Iron Man 3 is well on its way to hitting $650 million by close of business today. As of right now, the international cume for the movie stands at $520.6 million and it has surpassed the total box office of all previous Marvel Studios solo films in just TEN days. Looking at these figures, there can be no doubt that they will most definitely want to bring back Robert Downey Jr., no matter how much money he demands! With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
