Back in May, when the first set photos for Iron Man 3 hit, we saw a new type of Iron Man armor very similar to the Iron Patriot armor seen in the comics. Later on in production, that theory was debunked by sources at Latino Review, saying that the suit was simply War Machine's but with a color change. Now, new sources offer reason to believe that the character license will be used in Iron Man 3. New trademarked applications for Iron Patriot and Avengers Initiative on a variety of goods and services besides comics have appeared on the United States Patent and Trade Office website. After the giant success of The Avengers, new applications for the brand are expected , but not for a character like Iron Patriot. The Iron Patriot applications cover a wide range of goods and services, from action figures to Christmas ornaments. It is very unusual for Marvel to be protecting a character that is not well known to the general public as of now, unless he is making an appearance in Iron Man 3 of course; we will just have to wait and see.
