Last August, THQ abandoned plans for a video game based off
Marvel's The Avengers, meaning that fans were left without a tie-in to Joss Whedon's hit movie. Disney could have chosen to continue working on the title, but decided not to. Instead, they released the Facebook game,
Marvel: Avengers Alliance (which is now their most popular social game with over 10 million players). However, according to a report over at
The Los Angeles Times, their sources tell them that Disney's games group are in fact working on an
Iron Man 3 console game to tie-in with the film next May. The first two (from SEGA) were met with a very negative reaction from fans and critics, so only time will tell whether or not the House of Mouse are able to succeed where that developer failed. Film tie-ins have become far less popular in recent years, with the expensive production values and rushed production schedule almost always resulting in a flop and sales dropping with each mediocre release.
