Finally the movie is progressing! Read on if you want to know the writer chosen...

Perhaps this shouldn't be so much of a surprise, given that Judge Dredd is a project nestling under the wing of Danny Boyle's DNA films. But we're still ludicrously excited by the news, picked up from Twitter by MTV's Splashpage, that Alex Garland is working on a draft of the script.

Garland previously wrote The Beach, 28 Days Later, Sunshine and 28 Months Later for Boyle, and his involvement was confirmed via tweet by British comics artist Mark "Jock" Simpson, who has worked extensively on Dredd strips for 2000AD and has been coming up with concept art for the projected new film. "Working through script visuals for Judge Dredd movie. Alex Garland writes a great script," is the full missive. He is also rumored to be the the script-writer for Halo. Danny Boyle is also rumored to be making a Solomon Grundy movie says imdb.com

JFYI Judge Dredd is about a man who is a law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. Dredd and his fellow Judges are empowered to arrest, sentence and even execute criminals on the spot. And for those who don't know, Judge Dredd was adapted into a movie in the year 1995 starring the one-man-killing-machine-who-does-totally-impossible-things-in-movies SYLVESTER STALLONE!!! sadly the movie bombed and got alot of negative reviews, but no matter what they say I still like the movie.

There you go another comic book movie in the making (and sorry if you disagree with me this movie really needs a reboot).

Will this next comic book movie live up to its name or will it just pitifully continue sucking up? only time will tell.

ROCK ON!!!

Hmm, i'd like to see a reboot. Judge Dredd vs Judge Dead :D
Robsaggs
Robsaggs - 9/9/2009, 3:55 AM
do you mean "Dredd" and "Death"?

agreed, this could have been such a good film first time around if they'd actually tried, but with stallone and Rob Schneider it was never going to be anything but bad. I still own it though...

i don't know, the premise of judge dredd is actually very cool. the first movie was awful, but like Robsaggs said, i still own it. i even watch it from time to time, as goofy as it is. but they could do a very cool movie of this. i wouldn't bring out Judge Death in the first one, but maybe the 2nd!

With all the comic book properties that have yet to get the silver screen treatment, why do they keep remaking movies that have already been done? Sometimes it's cool and or necessary in the case of iconic characters (Batman, for example), but Judge Dredd really isn't that well known outside of geek circles. The honorable Judge had his shot and that movie sucked so hard I didn't even finish it. Let's move on to some characters that haven't been tried yet. The general populace doesn't know or give a shit about a one note hack of a character like Judge Dredd.

Well... i know i might be loosing an incredible amount of credibility here but Judge Dredd is BY FAR my very favorite Stallone film AAAAANNNNDD... is in my top 5 superhero/comic book film of all time. Don't ask me why, it just is LOL :P This re-boot/re-imaging is good news to me. Hopefully, and i meen it with all honesty, Stallone might come back for the re-boot. But i can bet my red money that Ray Stevenson will be up for it.

Shamon...

I Agree...

I Loved this movie. This is What Stallone should've been making instead of another Rocky movie.

But...hey...they can replace him and find somebody else.
Finally...another Judge Dredd movie...

IT'S ABOUT TIME!

Dredd is incredibly popular across the pond, they need to do this character some justice. I think Stallone could pull it off, if they have a good writer and a directer who will keep it closer to the comics.

DEATH WAS THE COOLEST VILLAIN DREAD HAD TO FACE..THAT GRAPHIC NOVEL WHEN BATMAN IS TRANSPORTED TO JUDGE DREAD'S WORLD WAS BAD AZZ. THE ART WAS COOL AND THE BATMOBILE LOOKED PRETTY SICK.

While the craze is to do comics to movies, there are a huge supply of movies from the 90's, 80's, and 70's that could be re-booted and done well; the stories and scripts are there.
Just because JD was not given the treatment it deserved the first time around should not doom it from being re-booted.

Never even finished the first movie. But I might go see the reboot...if done well. As for reading about the chance of a Solomon Grundy movie...this is awsome f***ing news! Does this mean he may make appearances as a villain in other comic movies? Lets hope so!

SHAMAN @ I liked JUDGE DREDD too, but not as a comic book movie, they [frick]ed it up too much, anyways, it should be a NO NAME coz we want the HELMET to STAY ON!!!

; )
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 9/9/2009, 12:08 PM
@ skunk

yeah they don't show his face in the comics. and stallone's most famous line ever, at least for me, is "I AM THE LAW!" just the way he says it is comedy gold! oh, and "double whammy!"
Shaman
Shaman - 9/9/2009, 1:34 PM
God did Stallone look kick ass with the helmet! I wish he'd kept it on as well. But realistically, i can understand why he did take it off. I'm just happy he stayed in character even without it. Sometimes it affects the actor.

I really liked Stallone's Judge Dredd. I remember buying a Power Ranger's movie ticket and sneaking into Judge Dredd with a friend of mine.

I'd be up for watching another Judge Dredd movie is Danny Boyle is doing it.

This is what I am talking about!!!! The Judge! Sylvester Stallone should have his dick ripped off and thrown in the bushes for what he did to that '95 version. No helmet coming off, no mercy, no Rob. There is so much good source material. Forget the lame DC versions of Dredd, go for the 2000AD stuff. Mabey after this a Strontium Dog movie. All the DC stuff was not bad I like the JD/Batman stuff. But this is what we need Judge Dredd. This movie had me at reboot.
Gose
Gose - 9/9/2009, 4:10 PM
Just CGI the '95 stallone version with a helmet on his head and there you go, a REBOOT ....

DeadPoolSucksBigTime--"have his dick ripped off and thrown in the bushes for what he did to that '95 version." --that made me laugh so hard. I needed that!

That '95 version is so bad! but if you go into it knowing you're going to make fun of it, it is waaaay better. Try it with friends!

JD is in much need of a reboot. They could have done it the next year and everyone would've said, "oh yes, well naturally."

Please, for the love of Supermike, make the Batman/Judge dredd movie and throw Judge Death in there and make it Bizley style. I would cry tears of joy.

The Judge wipes the floor with half of the nonsense currently being developed. Stallone turned this classic character in to a piece of fluff for 10 yr olds. Statham doesn't have the gravitas for this role. Gimme an unknown & an R rating Danny.
