Judge Karl Urban's Chin In New DREDD Image

In the comics Judge Dredd never properly shows his entire mug. He wears a helmet that obscures most of his face, except for his mouth and a prominent chin, that is usually draped in a scowl.

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The film opens in 3D September 21st.

lunesta...
He sounds like that because Dredd was in the 1970's originally part based on Dirty Harry/ Clint Eastwood.
It's faithful to the origins but of course, many films after Dirty Harry copied that style of voice right up to The Dark Knight Rises.

For someone who has CONSTANTLY complained that the new film ISN'T like the comics...please refer to them again and enlighten me as to how that isn't like Bolland, Kennedy, Dillon etc etc
Or are the oil drums too big, the walls too grey, the walls corner not straight enough???

Plot, my dear dollstix, plot. The plot is not worthy of Judge Dredd. It is merely Die Hard set in a Mega-City 1 block. Garland has zero imagination.

looking at judge dredd in the original comic book you will find his lower jaw and chin were based on clint eastwood so judge dredd had that dirty harry look that worked so well in those movies.
this is why stallones judge dredd failed in reality.

The plot is fine.
It's a day in the life of to establish Dredd's character, especially those not fimiliar with the source.
One of the many problem's with the Stallone version was trying to fit too much in.
Remember, one of the sources were the Dirty Harry films. They weren't exactly multi-layered opuses.
I truly like what they are doing with this version and remember its 'A' version. I love what they are doing with Judge Minty but I really support Urban's Dredd. And if John Wagner agrees and most if not all the reviews are positive from people with knowledge of the character, I think we all should just enjoy the film and look forward to bigger budgets and expansion of the Dredd mythos.

Urban definitely doesn't have Dredd's prominent square chin, but he still does a fine job at looking constipated. :-P

It must hurt to make that face for so long. I imagine it stops hurting once he cashes his check, though.

Today it's the plot. Yesterday it was the walls, day before that it was the outfit, day before that the vans, day before that... ad infinitum.

You win. The film sucks (even though those who have, you know, actually seen it say it doesn't). Now can you please STFU and let the rest of us enjoy the film?

Once again I remind you - get behind this one or there won't be any more for any of that stuff from the comics you so want to see. There won't be any reboots. No money thrown at the Minty guys. Nothing.

So if you ARE a 'real' Dredd fan, try to keep an open mind, maybe try to actually support their efforts, and at the very least stop trying to do your utmost to sabotage any enthusiasm for the film the rest of us might have. Not too much to ask is it?

What am I thinking? I forgot who I'm talking to/at (he doesn't listen). Never mind. Carry on.

I watched a show on DYI network and it showcased how they built all the sets for this movie...it's pretty amazing. Much of what you see is actually built.

..but he seems like he's about to cry in that pic. As a Dredd fan I'd have to say that's not the best image.
