Lionsgate films have picked up the distribution rights for the 2000AD comic book character Judge Dredd, titled simply Dredd as well as two other films as yet, not known.

"Dredd starts production on November 12 in Cape Town, South Africa and will be filmed in 3D. It will be directed by Pete Travis and has a budget of $45 million.

The movie takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary.

Alex Garland wrote the Dredd script based on John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's comic strip."

Lionsgate did really well with its recent Stallone release The Expendables and its looking to capitalise on this with Pete Travis' Dredd, Boaz Yakin's Safe and Simon West's Protection.

Well i freakin' LOVED the Stallone Dredd film but yeah... LEEE's right, it wasn't faithful. But since this film has Judge Anderson as being a rookie, it could even be considered a prequel to Stallone's :)

Well.... Dredd's going to fail then.

I don't mind Lionsgate but their publicity skills are horrific.

Punisher War Zone (No UK release my arse)
Kick-Ass
Expendables (Especially in the UK)

They need to get their act together.

SHAMAN @ Dude I actually loved that movie too, the first 15 minutes tho are my fav lol! ; D

When he took off the helmet all through the rest my heart sank lol,,, but I did enjoy it for what it was, an action STALLONE movie! ; p

IF they brought it out today though, not so much, we expect a bit more faithfulness these days.

Yeah can't wait to see JUDGE ANDERSON.... I know its an obvious pick but how about RACHEL NICHOLS? ; p

I guess I still have trouble visualizing Karl as Dredd. I'm glad he's a fan of the series and has been passionate about getting this film made. He's obviously become embraced by action film goers. For me, his work on Riddick was awesome. But Dredd is an imposing, vicious figure who gives criminals and the public nightmares. I like Karl's work but I would have loved to see someone who is almost too big for the helmet. I would have been blown away if rock-chinned Jason Statham got the role. Plus, doesn't Dredd have a british accent? Ha. Still wishing the film the best. I hope they play up the really interesting cast of freaks who roam Dredd's precinct. Let the judging begin.

LEEE- She's confirmed. But i don't mind her at all. She makes me think of a mix between Anne Hathaway and Selma Blair. Both of which i'm very fond of physically. She sure is no Rachel Nichols though.

LEEE777@ Nothing wrong in her looks, but she sure isnt Judge Anderson in my book (Rachel Nichols... way way better choice), but yeah she is confirmed!... Sorry for the bad news man!:(
