Why Dredd Showing His Face Makes Karl Urban "Puke In His Popcorn"

Urban assures us that we are in for a comic faithful interpretation of ol stoney face. The Kiwi actor also lets us know just how passionate he is about the Judge keeping that helmet on..

We haven't heard a peep from Dredd in a while. A few official pics aside, no footage or teaser trailer have been screened as was expected at some of the various cons and expos that have taken place recently. But Judge Dredd himself Karl Urban is keeping interest alive.

Speaking to Total Film Urban describes Pete Travis' (Vantage Point) Dredd as a "set up film. A day in the Judge's life as he puts rookie Anderson through her paces". He then goes on to talk about how the character in the comics never reveals his face, something ignored by the wretched Stallone movie back in 1995.

"If anyone if familiar with Dredd, over the years there are many times when he removes his helmet but you never fully see his face. This was a construct by the creators because he represents a faceless system of justice and law."

I say this hypothetically. If I went to a movie called Judge Dredd and the lead actor at one point took of his helmet so we could see his full face I would just puke in my popcorn because that's not Dredd. He is mysterious and enigmatic. We're doing it right, it's gonna be harder, grittier and above all faithful to the comic. It's gonna kick ass."

Dredd is written by Alex Garland (Sunshine) and also stars Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson and Game Of Thrones' Lena Heady as the villain, Madeline "Ma Ma" Madrigal.

How can it be "comic faithful" when the main guys playing Dredd has the smallest chin, the weakest physique and barely the voice to sound like any serious authority figure?

He looks like he's wearing his fathers Judge Uniform, and where the hell is the bloody EAGLE for crissake's?

His Worship the Magnificent Sylvester Stallone is the Law and he knows better than the Fans. Okay I admit saying what what I just said makes me Nauseous and Even I do not Believe it. The Fact is Stallone took Judge Dredd and Made it in his image. Just to satisfy his Massive Ego. I like What I see of the new Movie I say this as one who has been reading Dredd since he was first Available In the United States e

Folks Like Urban has said. Dredd is The face less Personification of the Law. To Elaborate. The Law is not Kind, Gentle or Attractive. It simply exist in order to provide cohesion for a society. That Is what Judge Dredd is. He is not so Much a Hero. As he is an Ideology personified. Just a Thought.

I'm looking forward to this but I think it will tank at the box office. Why is he doing that "Stallone" thing with his mouth?

BTW,... Hey Ror, when are you going to post the winners of that caption contest you posted awhile back?

Dredd has always been tall, but never bulky? Isnt he like, 6.6 feet in the comics? So how can Urban (6 feet) be to small, but Sly ( 5.9 feet) is ok? Ok, the shoulderpads are more accurate in Slys slap stick comedy, size wise, but Urbans outfit give, at least me, a far better feel. Its more about thick protective, dirty leather and Slys is all about shiny plastics and spandex. Slys Dredd was perhaps entertaining, but as a Dredd movie, it sucked like a Kirby. Its not closer to the comics Dredd than the Police Acadamy-movies...
I do not, however, like the look on the policecars and the Lawmaster.. In Megacity, ther should not be any 90s Suvs or pimped out Kawasakis. Just give a HD to the Tuttles and that would be fine if they dont wanna go too futuristic. But at least go a LITTLE futuristic please. ;)
