DC Entertainment Have No Plans For A Justice League Movie Anytime Soon!

Diane Nelson has told IGN that DC have no intention of following in the footsteps of Marvel Studios and will instead focus on "standalone experiences" rather than anything like The Avengers...

"People make an assumption that we're going to mirror Marvel's strategy, for example with Avengers," the President of DC Entertainment told IGN Movies in an interview earlier today. "We do have a very different attitude about how you build a content slate. And it isn't necessarily about connecting those properties together to build into a single thing."

And if that wasnt seemingly proof enough that they have no intention of making a Justice League movie anytime soon, Nelson added: "We think we've got great stories and characters that will lend themselves to great standalone experiences, and that's the way we're focusing on it."

"You know, it's funny...I really enjoy the healthy competition that exists but also the competition that people assume and, to some extent, project onto us. There is a healthy competition as there would be in any business. But we do not spend our days thinking about what Marvel is doing," she added when asked about whether or not DC is playing catch-up to Marvel in terms of its feature film output.

She finished by saying that while she's happy that Marvel are doing well, nothing they do influences the decisions made by DC Entertainment. "There is not a single thing we've done that has been reactive to Marvel from the creation of DC Entertainment to today. People can speculate, but they are wrong."

There's this feeling when Marvel references another flick. Just feels like ass kissing. Hopefully the JL members will have it come out of the blue that they need to form a team.

You know what I bet their doing? They're gonna build on the heroes stand alone movies first. Then they're gonna make a JLA completely unrelated to the universes already established, a la the cnacelled Justice League Mortal movie.

What a wasted oppurtunity. They could have easily used the upcoming Green Lantern and Superman movies to start laying the foundations for the JLA and I'm sure that they could find a way to bring Nolan's Batman in as a part of the team. (because a reboot after 2012's Batman 3 would delay things...A LOT) I'm sure we'll still end up with plenty of great movies, but what a kick in the balls to think that it's not leading anywhere!!!

Calm down man. This means nothing as of yet. Besides just cuz they're not interconnecting thier movies with cameos etc doesn't mean JLA isn't going to happen. Whether that be using previously established characters or not I cannot predetermined, but a team up movie is inevitable.

They are seriously Goof balls.

I remember when I heard long ago that the JLU cartoon almost didn't make it cause they were unsure of putting them all together for a cartoon. Imagine that we could have missed out on that awesome JLU Timm-verse.

Goof-balls.

well hopefully in a few years once lot of standalone movies are out there they will change their toon and push a JL movie

But..but, what about all that stuff about a JL movie without Supes and Batman..your not telling me THAT was all fabricated are you!!!!!!

Seriously though, this doesn't mean there won't be one at some point. I can sort of respect where she is coming from in some ways. Don't get me wrong, I want a JL movie as much as anyone but I'm willing to wait and see what the solo movies give us before having to rush into an announcement.

i like what they doing. doing 3 movies of there main 3 then probably connect them after each character has a movie and probably introducing other characters 2 make sense that way and Nolan batman can work in a jla movie who said he cant work in a jla movie?

Justice League is a freaking no brainer. Instead we get something like Jonah Hex.

Here's hoping the Avengers do very well, cause if they do, then perhaps at that point WB/DCE will reconsider.

Oh please. Marvel owns 3/4s of the comics market and most of the CBMs as well. To say they do not watch and occasionally react to the market leader seems less than honest to me.

This is not great news though. Sounds like Nolan had his way with Supes and Bats so the JLA is on hold for now. Too bad the guy who made some of the best CBMs does not know anything at all about SuperHeros.

i been saying that all the time they wont do JLA anytime soon they are focusing on doing solo movies for their important DC characters.

now hurry up and give us info on what characters they make into standalone film.

You know what it sounds like? It sounds like, beyond making movies about stand alone characters, they have no goal like a JL movie.

Well allow me to speculate......Just b/c Marvel has a great working idea on how to do it, doesn't mean we will respect DC any less if they decide to copy it.

true true. emotions just getting the best of me. im a DCer and all this marvel noise just gets me antsy.

im actually kind of afraid of a JLA movie because im so afraid its impossible to do right.

but who knows, as long as we have nolan on our side, anything is possible right?

Im more of a DCer too. I think DC's just playing the field right now. Im still really scarred that Marvel's over saturizing the market with superhero movies who's quality are still more or less questionable. DC's still coming out as a franchise. If they're on par with movies like BB and TDK it'll be all worth the wait.

Rush away Marvel. At the end of the day whos cares. Not like DC and Marvel are scared of rebooting if it doesnt make them the money they want.

@Ror- Funny as hell man! Made my day!

YEah, I'd love to see this a team up movie happen, but at the same time, I would like it to make sense and be a good film. The DC films just don't add up at this time, but I think they could in the future.
npatil
npatil - 9/21/2010, 3:57 PM
just give it time!

but great standalone movies are just perfect too,

the big factor here is how good the avengers will be when it comes out.

i predict batman 3 makes more than avengers

1. batman 3
2. spiderman reboot
3. avengers

there will be just too many characters in it, downey being the biggest star will have the most screen time in it.

Okay, I'm going to be "that guy." I can overlook the fact that the articles aren't edited, but when the title itself has "DC Entertainment HAVE no plans," someone has to speak up and save civilization. There, I feel better.

X-Men suffered not because they had so many characters (although that didn't help any) it suffered because it strayed way too far from the source material and instead of being true to the characters they were using and trying to give each character its due, they threw in as many as they could just because they could.

They didn't care for the characters and it showed, they just figured "Ohhh the fans will just LOVE to see so-and so, regardless if they are done right".

There was a time it was said you can't have more than one villain in a superhero movie cause it would be too crowded, and they would point to Batman & Robin (4). The cause really was that the story was lacking. Batman Begins and Dark Knight both had 2 solid villains and they rocked.

C'mon Marvel, knock it out the park, so it will inspire others to try it also.
Superman8
Superman8 - 9/21/2010, 3:59 PM
agreed. i think it all depends on the Superman reboot. if it does well, theyll have no reason to not do JLA. If it fails, i really believe theyll hang up the live action movies for awhile and just stick to the DCU animated movies, which are great btw.
DrRockit13
DrRockit13 - 9/21/2010, 4:00 PM
all of you speculating like this are doing exactly what she is saying you shouldn't do. DC does not have the same ideas for these films, and DC characters work better alone anyway, the only times they really do come together are in the JLA books, Marvel has every character in each others story lines all the time that's why they can do it. and besides they are putting out a lot more animated movies than marvel, which don't have to lend themselves to be very vague on the characters, they can explore way more story lines that way. there will never be any live action films that follow the same story lines that they have been doing. they are cheaper and don't need to explain a lot because they know the only people that will be watching them are the people that already know about the characters. I can't stand it when you people try to say how story lines can work in the movies universes when they would take to long to explain and can not be done in just one film when the general public don't know or more importantly don't care how some one became the super hero as long as the movie looks cool. i know it sucks when our favorite characters get screwed with (Deadpool) but the sad thing is no one besides us really cares.

FanBoyBlack - 9/21/2010, 4:02 PM
This is reason number 1001 as to why they will fall behind Marvel. So people just don't want to be successful...what can you do.

Go get that money Marvel...DC doesn't want it.
RedDevil
RedDevil - 9/21/2010, 4:02 PM
I actually like her position. DC should familiarize audiences with their superheroes besides Bats and Supes. The JLA possibility relies on the success of Avengers. If Avengers is good then DC should green light JLA. If it does horribly bad, then DC should remain intact with individual storytelling.

She's being vague so we don't know exactly. It just seems like they're focusing on the single films right now. As they should.
