Comic Con and much more!

On The Chances Of Seeing A Sequel To The Successful 2010 Movie, Kick-Ass:

"It’s funny, actually, because we knew from the beginning that there would be. We ended the first one with a trailer, practically, for it, with that little teaser at the end. The movie was very, very cheap to make, it only cost 28 million dollars, so we thought, unless we screw up really, really badly here, of course there will certainly be [another] movie. We made a hundred million dollars at the box office, and then another 125 on DVD, so at the moment we’re sitting on 225 million on a 28 million dollar investment. We would like to have done more, because we thought the movie was great. Even though it was a seventh of the price of Iron Man, or whatever, we expected it to do Iron Man money, believe it or not. 225 million we’re happy with, that’s a really good return. Lionsgate [is] happy."

On When Exactly We Might Expect To See The Sequel Hit The Big Screen:

"We’ve said from the beginning, of course, we’ll certainly do a sequel. It’s just, when everybody has time. I’m writing the story just now, Matt[hew Vaughn, director of the orginal Kick-Ass film] is finishing X-Men probably in April, he’s out in LA at the moment. We talk about different stuff every day, but almost certainly. We just have to make sure the actors don’t get too old. Chloë [Moretz] in particular. We can’t wait until she’s 15. We don’t want Hit-Girl with kids."

On How Work Is Progressing On Both The Nemesis And Superior Film Adaptations:

"The Nemesis movie is the next thing we’re all starting to get quite excited about. Hopefully in the next few weeks that’s out with a screenwriter, and hopefully when the screenplay is done in a few weeks time, we can really get moving on that. Superior should be fast-tracked as well. Hopefully have both of those out at around the same time. But what’s nice is that I can just sit back and let other people do all the hard work with that, and just go see the movie and get a free ticket."

Mark Millar is awesome. The Ultimates, Marvel Knights Spider-Man, Wolverine: Enemy of the States, Old Man Logan...too many amazing things to mention. His creator owned work is also top notch, and I cannot wait to see these movie adaptations. It's just a shame he plans on taking a break from Marvel for the next couple of years. :(

Kick-Ass didn't cost 28 million dollars to make, it cost 28 thousand dollars according to Vaughn

Either Millar is being misquoted, delusional, full of $hit, or every site on the nets is wrong.I'm pretty sure Kick-Ass did not make $225 million.

I don't understand the hate for this guy either, he's done some brilliant comics and when he was a guest at thought bubble in Leeds a few years back, he did a panel which was really funny, and a signing after when he seemed a genuine down to earth guy. The annoying thing about kick-Ass was not seeing his name in lights but Jonathan Ross's wife name as writer. Anyway looking forward to seeing Kick-Ass 2 and whatever follows.

"..unless we screw up really, really badly here..." They did when they had him hook up with Katie.

Lot of hateful, mean spirited people on this site. None of you know Millar to hate him, and his comics consistently sell well, so he must be doing something right. I suspect jealousy has something to do with it - some people just hate it when someone gets any recognition, because they never will. Good for him, and good for the exposure his success will give other comic book writers.

@Kamdan: No they didn't - they made it better and gave it more heart by having him hook up with Katie. If there's any criticism that can be levelled at Millar it's that his characters sometimes lack heart and, like many people who visit this site, are mean-spirited, bitter and a bit nasty. Goldman and Vaughan rightly tweaked it to restore some balance on that score, without which I doubt Kick-Ass would have been as well received (and it was well received, make no mistake). A great example of how carefully thought out changes for a movie can improve on the original (ditto for Damon's backstory - another great improvement).

There was plenty of heart in the source material, KeithM. Just because Dave didn't get the girl at the end didn’t mean he was going to sit around and whine like Tobey’s Spider-Man. He knew how big of an impact he had made. That aspect that made me greatly appreciate the book. Kick-Ass was a huge inspiration for people to actually help out one another, abet as superheroes, instead of turning their backs. They had it going when Dave got mugged, but the payoff was overlooked. That’s also why they had the guy diving off the building at the beginning. That was one of the inspired citizens. In the film, it was there was no particular reason for it, other than shock value. The Big Daddy in the film was also a missed opportunity, because in the comics, he is seen as an older version of Dave, a comic fan who wants to be a superhero. When I saw that Cage was going to channel Adam West, I figured that would be in the same vein, but again, it went nowhere.

I'm still mad he let them butt rape Wanted but a good job was done on Kick Ass. IMO Nemesis would be awesome!
