Marvel Studios Rumored To Have Met With BARBIE Star Ryan Gosling - But Not For The Role You Might Expect

A new rumor is claiming that Marvel Studios has met with Barbie star Ryan Gosling about potentially coming aboard the MCU, but the actor is not believed to be in talks for Doctor Doom!

Ryan Gosling was one of the many names rumored to be in line to play Doctor Doom in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, and while the Barbie star is no longer expected to be in contention for that particular role (if he ever was), he might just be in talks to play a different character.

According to insider Daniel Richtman (via Patreon), Gosling has met with Kevin Feige about potentially coming aboard the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We don't know if the actor is officially in talks, and Richtman doesn't mention any specific heroes or villains, but we're hearing that they may be discussing more than one character.

This is obviously just a rumor for now, but Gosling did recently part ways with Universal and Blumhouse's Wolf Man, which he's been attached to for over three years. This could be a complete coincidence, or course, but is there a chance Gosling stepped away from the project because Marvel came calling?

Gosling hasn't really seemed too excited about the prospect of playing a superhero or joining the MCU in previous interviews, although he did mention Ghost Rider as one character he might be interested in taking a crack at (could the Spirit of Vengeance be a possibility?) on a couple of occasions.

He also appeared to be a little more open to the idea while doing press for The Russo Bros.' The Gray Man last year.

“I think they felt my Kenergy," he said about the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame directors. "They must have felt it before I did. I hope they can manifest this MCU thing. I think that would be cool.”

Which Marvel character, if any, would you most like to see Gosling play? Drop us a comment down below.

From Oscar-nominated writer/director Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird) comes Barbie, which also stars America Ferrera (End of Watch, the How to Train Your Dragon films), Kate McKinnon (Bombshell, Yesterday), Issa Rae (The Photograph, Insecure), Rhea Perlman (I’ll See You in My Dreams, Matilda), and Will Ferrell (the Anchorman films, Talladega Nights), and more.

Gerwig directs from a screenplay she penned alongside Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, The Squid and the Whale), based on the iconic fashion dolls by Mattel.

The film’s producers are Oscar nominee David Heyman (Marriage Story, Gravity), Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Robbie Brenner, with Gerwig, Baumbach, Ynon Kreiz, Richard Dickson, Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Courtenay Valenti, Toby Emmerich and Cate Adams serving as executive producers.

@bobevanz - yeah I really don't believe it until they announce a casting. They struggled to get someone to play Reed Richard's. And you're telling me Ryan gosling, who's at a career high thanks to barbie, is gonna jump on the boat everyone else is getting off of?

@Origame -

for me;
gosling in the MCU ??

overrated actor !

if inevitable, maybe as Silver Surfer, where he barely speaks or has much to do (physically)

Hell, recast Pedro Pascal as Kang and let Gosling play Reed. Much better scenario.

@BobGarlen - I cant really see Gosling as Reed though. Too cool for school.

@BlackSpider - I think he showed enough Chops between First Man and Blade Runner. I just can't stand the idea of Pascal as Reed. Horrible miscast.
BlackSpider

@BobGarlen - Both great roles, but both he was kinda well again too cool for school, he would make a good silver surfer maybe. Though might be a waste

@BlackSpider - the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby Reed was a very confident individual, a work a holic. I think Gosling could make it work. Too cool for school or not.

@BobGarlen - Yes but Ryan Gosling isn't usually those things. He's a pretty laid back in all all his roles. No doubt he could do it, but better choices

@SuperiorHeckler - they won’t gender swap the surfer, that’s Stan Lees favourite character. They will make him awesome.

@BlackSpider - He'd be perfect for Surfer. He's got that vibe. Him and Keanu and Denzel all have that Norrin Radd vibe to them, imo.

Although this would be the second time he played a guy with no dick.

Barbie was one of the worst films I've seen in awhile, contrary to popular belief, and this is coming from someone who adored Promising Young Women. I love a good, well written feminist leaning film. I want Emerald Fennel's Zatanna film....which I doubt comes to fruition now but Gunn should make it happen if he's smart. She's a great director and creative force. Gerwig....well I loved Lady Bird but good GOD do I want nothing to do with her take on Narnia. That will be a botched abortion.

In regards to Gosling as Ghost Rider. We could only be so lucky!

McMurdo - 12/19/2023, 6:46 PM
@BlackSpider - my tits are appropriately chilled my boy. I also thought Little Women was one of the best films of 2019. I think Gerwig is great....she just lost me with Barbie pretty much at the scene where all the girls get together in that room on Barbie land to explain for 20 mins why their movie exists. I just thought it was painfully un-funny and painfully safe. And painfully boring. I wish it was offensive. I will give credit on Gosling he carried that film. But even his lines could a been better. There's just a far better Barbie film in Barbie was my takeaway.
BlackSpider
BlackSpider - 12/19/2023, 6:48 PM
@McMurdo - Hey hey hey...I never your boobies. Anyway most movies are cynical, which is why I think Barbie did so well, but to each their own. I can understand disliking I guess.
McMurdo
McMurdo - 12/19/2023, 6:57 PM
@BlackSpider - well there's no two ways around it. My take is definitely the minority take. People loved that movie. Lots of young girls showed up at least for the showing I was at. Hard to argue that this at the very least wasn't a dope feat. Credit where credit is due even if I felt it was Gerwig worst feature to date. She typically only makes bangers and most would argue this followed suit so. It is what it is!
BlackSpider
BlackSpider - 12/19/2023, 6:59 PM
@McMurdo - Ah dont worry about. I think its a film people dont mind if you dislike. I agree its definilty greta gerwigs worst movie, though thats not saying much cause everything she makes usually slaps. I hope she does some solos again after narnia

Hot take, I would like her for xmen.
McMurdo
McMurdo - 12/19/2023, 7:08 PM
@BlackSpider - I'm just interested to see what her in is with Narnia. Was she a fan of the series? Does she intend to remain faithful to the literature or what's the move? If she's a big Narnia fan than we could be in for a treat. My alarmism bells just fire off and I worry the intention is not to simply give us a great adaptation. Rings of Power was recent and painful lol
