There's More LGBTQ+ Representation Coming To The Marvel Cinematic Universe According To Kevin Feige
While doing the rounds to promote Ant-Man and The Wasp, Kevin Feige was asked about LGBTQ+ representation in the MCU and promised that there's at least one character we've already met, with more to come...
Marvel Studios has made strides when it comes to representing POC and female characters in The MCU, but so far they're lacking when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community.
Though it has been implied that Tessa Thompson's Thor: Ragnarok character Valkyrie is bisexual, any direct reference to that was cut from the film, which really doesn't count. However, Marvel's head honcho Kevin Feige says that is all going to change.
During an Ant-Man and The Wasp press conference, The Playlist asked Feige when LGBTQ+ fans would get to see themselves represented on screen:
The Playlist: When are we getting a Gay, Bi, LGBTQ, out character in the MCU? Is it even in the works?
Kevin Feige: Yes.
The Playlist: That’s the answer?
Kevin Feige: Yeah, that’s the answer.
The Playlist: It’s not someone we’ve seen yet, I’m guessing?
Kevin Feige: Both.
The Playlist: Both?
Kevin Feige: Both ones you’ve seen and ones you haven’t seen.
The character we've seen is most likely Valkyrie, which suggests that her sexual orientation will be addressed when she finally returns to The MCU. As for the one(s) we haven't, there are obviously numerous possibilities.
We know it won't be anyone from Ant-Man and The Wasp, but what about Spider-Man: Far From Home or Captain Marvel? Of course, it may not be a project that's been officially announced yet, so we'll just have to wait and see.
