It appears Universal are taking no chances with their second stab at a Wolfman movie after disappointing returns for Joe Johnston's effort last year. THR report that the new, still untitled movie will be heading straight to DVD/Blu-ray. This version began shooting in Bucharest, Romania today and will be directed by Louis Morneau, who previously helmed Joy Ride II and Hitcher II: I’ve Been Waiting. Should be great then eh!

Here is a synopsis..

"The movie amps up the action and the werewolf count with a tale set in an unnamed 19th century European village where a werewolf attack draws bounty hunters, thrill seekers and charlatans. A young man studying under a local doctor joins a team of bounty hunters but “it soon becomes clear that this creature is stronger, smarter and more dangerous than anything they have faced before. As casualties mount and villagers see their neighbors transformed into ravening monsters, the townsfolk take up arms against each other to find the true identity of the werewolf."

The full cast are: Stephen Rea (The Crying Game), Steven Bauer (Scarface), Ed Quinn (True Blood) and Nia Peeples (Pretty Little Liars), along with Guy Wilson, Adam Croasdell and Rachel DiPillo

The pic is aiming for a release on Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand in October 2012.

The 2010 film was pretty good, the acting was excellent and the special effects were great. Hopefully this one is good.

I was more than satisfied with the one from last year. I like the plot of this one, but most direct-to-dvd films suck.

With a good script, good director and good actors this could be epic but i doubt it will :/
So sad to see great actor like Stephen Rea in a straight to dvd movie.
He is the only one i like in that cast.

I still can't figure out why the original fell short of it's budget....it was far from being a bad film....it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad...

It had an awesome cast....decent plot and excellent direction......

Now the sequel gets thrown to the 10 dollar bin at Wal Mart.....

What crap.......if this goes for this movie so deserves to go Green Lantern II

Straight to DVD? Is Universal in danger of losing The Wolfman rights to Marvel?

@xXkryptoniteXx The chances of the dvd movie having higher production values, better actors and special FX are slim to none.

How about Stephen Rea (from V from Vendetta) as his listed credit. It carries more gravitas than the Crying Game.

Lord Loki has spoken
