It looks set to be a busy weekend at the North American box office, but none of the big new releases are going to take the #1 spot as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 and Skyfall hold on to the #1 and #2 positions respectively. Dreamworks Animation's Rise Of The Guardians fell 24% from Wednesday to Thursday and while rival studios are speculating that it could come back for a very strong Friday, it is so far underperforming and may struggle to even pass $30 million for the 5-day holiday. Ang Lee's Life of Pi actually rose 24%, exceeding expectations and climbing from #6 to #4. 20th Century Fox are hoping that the film, which has already received a large amount of Oscar buzz, will surpass $20 million. It will also need to do well overseas if there's any hope for the CGI heavy movie reclaiming its $120 million budget. Finally, Red Dawn (which has finally been released after being caught in MGM's financial problems) also dropped 20%, and with a 'B' CinemaScore, FilmDistrict are keeping their fingers crossed that Chris Hemsworth - an unknown when this was filmed - will be enough to bring in moviegoers. My personal recommendation this weekend? Well, it's hard to choose, but David O. Russell's Silver Lining Playbook definitely stands out as the best.

I'm baffled as to why so many people liked Skyfall but I'm happy that you all enjoyed it.

I found it to be insipidly boring and uninteresting. I was literally begging for it to end.

A matter of taste I guess.

Looking forward to Rise of the Guardians.

Guardians looks like it would be a fun movie to watch. Idk about Life of Pi. Looks ok, but I just can't get interested enough to go see it, unless someone asks me to go. And pass on Red Dawn.

Skyfall this weekend for me. Somehow still haven't gotten around to that one. That's probably it, although may see Lincoln with the wife.
