Hello!

I was told by a friend you regularly run art contests (or let people know about them) and I was really hoping I could get your support for this important cause.

Captain Canuck, Canada's iconic superhero, is celebrating his 35th year in comics! This marks an enormous achievement in comic history, and creator Richard Comely and artists George Freeman and Jean-Claude Aubin were recently presented with the Joe Shuster HALL OF FAME Award for their work in Canadian Comics.

I am celebrating this by running a Captain Canuck art contest over on the deviantART website! There are over $500 in cash and prizes to be won for all entries received before the deadline.

The end result of this contest is hopefully an art book dedicated and honoring Captain Canuck and his 35th Anniversary. Richard Comely (the creator) is a good friend of mine, and his family are well aware and approve my attempts to do so in his honor.

To date, I have received over 40 entries from all across the globe! Entries not only from Canada, but from the US, Mexico, Chile, Indonesia, Ireland, United Kingdom, the Philippines, and many more!

I am hoping you'd be willing to write a little article about Captain Canuck and direct people to my page in order to make this event a success.

Check out my page, read my journals, and let me know! I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time! Any more details you may need I would be happy to provide.

Don't hate me but I know sweet F.A. about this guy! But I have been hoping for another reason to see if there's still any lead* in the old pencil.

*pencils never actually had lead in them.

Even Canadians such as myself know sweet F.A. about this guy. Other than knowing that he has comics about himself, i've never read them. So i'll be wikiwikiwa-ing this dude ;)

LOL. I wanna try my hand at a fanart contest I use to draw pretty good for my digital animation class in High School. Not as good as Shaman or the others on here but not bad. Maybe I'll give it a go.

valeriesghost - A group of people taking an iconic, established character they personally know nothing about and taking creative liberties for nothing but personal gain, no doubt ending in a product insulting to the original and all who know him? We could call ourselves FOX!

Ron- ROFLMAO!!!! Touché ;)

Igirl- You should definitely give it a shot! Fanart contests are fun even if we don't win :))

Well, I used to have some issues of Captain Canuck
but in all my moving about I can't figure out where
the hell they went!

Ima gonna have to do that wikiwakiwookiethingi that
Shaman was talkin' about! lol

I live here north of Seattle near the Canadian
border and in one of my excursions to B.C., Canada,
when I was way younger, I spied this comic
in a convenience store. Then I was hooked. But I
can't remember details about the Cap! Damm fading
memory! Drat!

Ron@ I would never call myself "FOX" even if that was
my name! I'd be too ashamed to show my face!
DAMM THEIR FUXED-UP HIDES!!!

Well guys, the wikiwakiwookiethingamajiggy didn't give much info. Through all the little runs he's had, there's been three different guys to be him. And only the first one had super strength given by aliens.

I think i'm a put one of my "spins" on it. Might post it up here when i'm done ;)

Oh ya! The original John Byrne run on AF was great. I think it got too messed with during the 90's though. Is there even a version of AF anymore?
HelaGood
HelaGood - 7/15/2010, 2:14 PM
@Eviltwin not sure... they lost me as well in the 90's...

AF would make a cool movie though...

Hey everyone!

This is Chris Chettle here, the guy behind the 35th ANNIVERSARY of CAPTAIN CANUCK CONTEST over on deviantART (http://www.deviantart.com) I figured I'd answer some questions that appear to be arising.

You can find more about CAPTAIN CANUCK at the following locations:

The OFFICIAL website:
http://www.captaincanuck.com

Please take the time to check out the references above and if you have any questions PLEASE post them here or send me a note on DeviantART

For the record, you won't find any info about CAPTAIN CANUCK on the Marvel Pages because he isn't owned by Marvel Comics.

In fact, Marvel long ago tried to purchase Captain Canuck from Richard Comely, and when he said no, they turned around and had John Byrne and Chris Clairemont create GUARDIAN to lead their new Canadian supergroup ALPHA FLIGHT instead.

As well, I appreciate entries being left here, but I can only consider entries for members of DeviantART.com, so please take the time to register there if you haven't already.

@Hela

I think AF would make a good movie too, not so sure American audiences would think so. The CBM comunity would be up for it I'm sure.
