Deadline report that Jon Favreau, who directed the first two Iron Man movies and will helm the third installment for Disney for a May 13, 2013 release, will apparently helm Magic Kingdom as soon as work on that wraps.
Disney is said to be looking for a big screen film franchise that can turn Disneyland into the setting for a family feature, much like they did with theme park rides like
Pirates of the Caribbean and
The Haunted Mansion.
No specific plot details have been released and Disney said that it will take its time developing the film and although Ronald Moore (
Battlestar Galactica) wrote a screenplay, based on his own pitch, they will apparently look for a new writer to rewrite it from an idea that Favreau will come up with.
Magic Kingdom is being produced by Strike Entertainment partners Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, and while the studio has previously tapped theme park attractions for films like Pirates of the Caribbean, this is the first time it has created a movie featuring the entire park.
