Neil Gaiman discussed a Death movie with Guillermo Del Toro last week, but Matthew Vaughn still wants to get his teeth into Sandman.

After talking with Gaimen however, the Kick Ass director is adamant that a movie outing for Morpheus and co would be " Virtually Impossible"...

"I think it would make an amazing HBO series, you know, where you can just really create that world," Vaughn told MTV News. "There's too much to get into an hour and a half, two hours."

"[Neil and I] talked about it," the "Kick-Ass" director said. "I think as a movie it's virtually impossible to make properly."

Well, obviously one movie attempting to cover the whole 75 issue span would be impossible! Why can't they think of this in terms of installments? Is it that difficult to break down the different story arcs? make one movie focusing on issues 1 to 8(its all pretty much wrapped up in a bowe anyway!) and if it works out, make more..just try it for Gods sake! ..ahem. Sorry, a bit sick of waiting for this to happen. But Vaughan's ideas of a TV show is also a great one, its just notoriously hard for these type of comics to make that leap. Preacher failed to, and then even when other Vertigo titles like Human Target have, they have been watered down almost beyond recognition anyway. Then of course, even if something were to happen on that front..or a movie, is Vaughan the right man for the job? He certainly seems to be a big fan..but I would think someone like Del Toro would certainly seem a closer fit to the material.

But between this and the Del Toro talks, its encouraging that things are at least being discussed. Lets hope we hear something concrete on either a film or TV show soon.

If only we would get a SANDMAN show!

I can't see a SANDMAN show ever happening, pity but true.

Especially with HBO, remember PREACHER!

Why not a feature film that spins off in a series?

Well fingers crossed anything SANDMAN ever gets made!

Never read the books but i always wanted to! A dark TV series would be awesome but why not a feature film? I understand that there's more to it than what fits in one film but why not a series of films?

And if you have a few minutes to waste, check out the reviews, or better yet, click on the pic ;)

DAMMIT, Ror you spead demon!! :)

I was about to click submit when this article came up. Nice find.

I think Vaughns right. They could do the story more justice in this manner. It would be hard to cram it all into one or two movies and not have to ignore anything.

I hope HBO does it as an animated series.

Exactly Lee, why is Sandman any different to any long running episodic comic? They made Constantine..Hellblazer is still going!

I know some fans don't want any adaptation for fear of ruining it(not that a comic can be ruined by any adaptation of it!), but yeah, I share some of that concern that it won't be done justice

ROR @ I suppose bottom line is where SANDMAN ends up, if it ends up on ABC or something we gotta worry, i can't see many Networks giving it the justice we would want or it deserves.

I liked CONSTANTINE but Hollywood ripped the sh1t outta that lol, might be able to get away with that one, but they can't do something like that to SANDMAN.

Still i gotta think if they are bringing DEATH to the big screen maybe a TV series is better for SANDMAN (Maybe not the room for both?) just hope it ends up with (cough) HBO or something like.

lol @ lc!

I've never read the books (but plan to at some point!) but if done properly then something like this would be great to see on TV! However, I'm still waiting for Marvel to get their act together and start making TV shows!

LEEE: The way he talked, I don't even think it's an option for regular TV. He sounds like he was talking about a movie channel like HBO or Showtime.

I think Starz would also be a good network for a Sandman series. In the last few years, they've started airing original shows. After watching Spartacus:Blood and Sand, I believe they would be able to make a Preacher series, without having to tone down any of the content.

Funny you should say that, I always thought Darren Aronofsky would be a great director for a Sandman film. It needs to have a slightly off kilter feel about it, just like the comic. Imagine something like the style of The Fountain mixed with Requiem For A dream.

Think about it LEEE, the budget would have to be ridiculously high to do the Sandman as live action. Its so epic ya know? If they attempted it, it would only last a season or two at best because it would cost so much money. So thats why I'm saying animation would be the better way to go.

I agree with you,StraightEdge83.Look at Carnivale, Deadwood and Rome. Those shows couldn't continue because of their huge budgets.A sandman series would need a big budget. It would have a bigger budget on network TV, yet at the same time, a show like Sandman would not last on the regular networks.

I'm pretty sure they'll make a Sandman movie. So what if it's impossible.

Watchmen was supposedly impossible and it turned out a hell of a lot better than any of us expected.

Right..and wrong! There is a Sandman in the JSA, but this Sandman..Neil Gaimen's Sandman is Morpheus, the living embodiment of dreams. He is one of 7 beings called The Endless..kinda like Gods but were around before Gods..anyway too long to go into that, but Wesley Dodds(Golden age Sandman) does share a connection with Morpheus. They met once and Morpheus actually gave him him prophetic powers.
