POLL: Best Animated Comic Book Movie

It's time for the users of CBM.com to pick the best animated comic book movie.

Feature Opinion

We've had many polls to pick the best in live-action films, now it's time to give some credit to the Animated feature films. I think some would agree that a few of these films are in a level of their own and are actually far better than their live-action counter parts. With the animated films, we are able to see the characters in all their colorful uniformed glory and not have to worry about how they will translate tot he screen. It allows them to be more open with story lines as well as action sequences.

We're going to do this in two parts. First, I will list each of the films under their respective distributer, DC or Marvel, and you will be able to vote for your favorite. From there, I will take the top two from each company and create a new poll to determine the best animated CBM.

Without further ado, here are the choices. First up are the Marvel films:

Ultimate Avengers

Ultimate Avengers 2- Rise of the Panther

The Next Avengers- Heroes of Tomorrow

Planet Hulk

Hulk Vs.

The Invincible Iron Man

Doctor Strange- Sorcerer Supreme

Now for the DC Comics films:

Justice League- New Frontier

Justice League- Crisis on Two Earths

Superman: Doomsday

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

Batman- Gotham Knight

Batman- Mask of the Phantasm

Wonder Woman

Green Lantern- First Flight

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker

There you have it! Vote away! I'm pretty sure I've got all of them here, at least the ones that matter, but if I've forgotten one, let me know and I will be sure to add it.

Compared to many people on CBM, I'm a relative newbie to the comic book world. I've just recently (within the last 10 years or so) started reading comics. However, I've been a fan of comic book characters nearly all my life, thanks to cartoons like the X-Men Series and Batman. Been downhill ever since.

I am an avid movie watcher and run my own movie website,(GeekBoyMovieNews) which covers a wide variety of movies, books and television news. There is nothing better to me than to sit back and a enjoy a good movie, or a crappy one for a good laugh.

While you may not see a lot of articles submitted by me, I've been an active user for close to three years here on CBM and I enjoy every minute on here. We have the best online community on the net her at CBM.com.

I've been lucky enough to climb the ranks here at CBM and the almighty Galactus has chosen me to act as one of his Heralds (Jr. Editor). So if you ever need suggestions or help on articles, I am more than happy to help out; you can find me in the CBM chat quite often. I also assist Big G in his "Beat Galactus Quizzes," so if you feel like you have a good question for the next quiz or suggestions on making them work better and more smoothly, feel free to drop me a line.

I look forward to talking and discussing comic books and their movies with all of you on the site!

Hey where's Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker? Anyways Mask of the Phantasm hands down for DC and for Marvel I guess Hulk Vs Wolverine. I didn't like the Thor one.

@IGirl- Ask and ye shall receive. I agree, Hulk vs WOlverine was cool. Hulk vs Thor, not so much

Mask of the Phantasm is still cool. Marvel needs to step up their game in the animation arena.

Mask of the Phantasm and Hulk Vs for me, too.

I'm with the Majority Mask of the Phantasm for Dc but Marvel was a toss up between Dr. Strange and Hulk Vs. But Ultimately I chose Hulk Vs.

Mask of the Phantasm is by far the most engaging and complex animated movie on that list. Until Nolan's films came around, that was the best Batman film. So I gotta go with Mask of the Phantasm
Shaman
Shaman - 6/30/2010, 10:06 AM
That doomsday teaser image for the article is flat out insulting.

I gotta vote for Mask of the Phantasm and Hulk Vs though. I was gonna vote First Flight but that's only cause the new wave of animated DC films made me forget about Phantasm. Boy, that film was a whole other world of quality on it's own! The opening credits alone beat the shit out of any other Marvel/DC animated entire features!!!

As for Hulk Vs., i actually prefered the Thor one over the Wolverine one. The Wolverine one just seemd like one big episode of Wolverine and The X-men. Which isn't bad but i feel that Thor's was better structured for a feature film. So what if Hulk tore him a new one, he still held his own. Hulk's relentlessness just caught him off guard is all. No biggie.

You forgot Batman mystery of Batwoman and The Batman vs Dracula. Probably nobody will vote for those but you gotta give options. I personaly voted Batman: MotP and Ultimate Avengers.

Ha! I didn't really think everybody was going to agree on Hulk vs. I figured Ultimate Avengers might have it. Dr. Strange and Planet Hulk were also quite good, but Iron Man was EXTREMELY disappointing.

Return of the Joker owns all. Batman Beyond was one of the greatest cartoons ever made period.

The various BAtman animates series spin of double episodes don't count. Mask Of Phantasm was a proper "movie" if you know what I mean. And it is the best out of Dc's although all of them are pretty good. The only good Marvel ones are both Hulks, Planet being the best.
McLovin
McLovin - 6/30/2010, 10:32 AM
Hulk vs and Gotham Knight for me. Phantasm is a close one but seems a bit dated now. Sub Zero was good also.
CRITIC17
CRITIC17 - 6/30/2010, 10:37 AM
I actually really liked the Doctor Strange one for Marvel. Despite some of the changes...

For DC it'd have to be Return of the Joker of course...
Shaman
Shaman - 6/30/2010, 10:41 AM
Ror- I agree. Which is why i prefered Thor over Wolverine in the Hulk Vs. It just seemed like more of a "proper" film than the other. Phantasm was a freakin' box office feature! It RULED!!! But The Batman Vs. Dracula was quite good. I thought it was way better than batwoman & sub zero put together. I haven't seen batman beyond return of the joker or planet hulk yet though. As for Gotham Knight, if they had made a full feature in the "Cross Fire" short's fashion, it would have pwned ALL. The rest was all meh. And i almost bought Invincible Ironman's bluray for 7$ brand new the other day. I didn't cause everybody bitches about it. I'd really like to know what sucks so much about it in detail. Just to give me a better picture. Keep in mind, my favorite is still First Flight after Phantasm...

IMO Ultimate Avengers is the best one while Wonder Woman would be second, they have a lot of action, those are my picks, for 3rd I'd pick Hulk vs. and 4th would be Dr. Strange !

=)

BACKDOORCHIJAD - 6/30/2010, 10:55 AM
AngelAragiel@ You beat me to it, I was about to add those two films until I read further down.
I also agree that nobody will vote for them but I really did like The Batman vs. Dracula. Joker as a vampire was so good! But I'm gonna hafta jump on the Mask of the Phantasm bandwagon although Wonder Woman was amazing. Anytime you have hot women cutting off heads I'm game. Hulk VS. is easily the best from Marvel.
BillyBlack
BillyBlack - 6/30/2010, 11:26 AM
Everything DC has done, with the exception of Public Enemies and the terrible Batwoman movie are waay better than ANY Marvel animated. Planet Hulk was a nice step forward, but it's still not even a debate.
Destroyer14
Destroyer14 - 6/30/2010, 11:30 AM
I'm going with the first Ultimate Avengers.
Shaman
Shaman - 6/30/2010, 11:36 AM
BillyBlack- I agree. Marvel's animation department should really focus on how to make feature animated films. But their Thor: Tales of Asgard feature coming up seems like a winner! Can't wait to see that!
ecksmanfan
ecksmanfan - 6/30/2010, 12:08 PM
@Shaman- I put that image there just for you!

Mask of the Phantasm is awesome, but I think that Wonder Woman deserves some love. I thought that has been the best animated DC film since Phantasm.

One thing is for sure...after seeing the list od Marvel films compared to DC, Marvel really needs to step up their game, bigtime. Look at the properties they have and look what movies we've got! Here's what I'd like to see from Marvel:

Deadpool
Marvel Zombies
Civil War
X-Men/Apocolypse storyline
among many others

Come on Marvel...get your animation on!
Shaman
Shaman - 6/30/2010, 12:12 PM
ecksmanfan- LOL I KNEW IT!!! It's all one big conspiracy against me!!! :P

I for one am not a fan of WW's. The voice acting was pretty bad, even for the somewhat big name actors they had. It all sounded phoned in. The action was decent but the plot was average. I dunno, it just didn't blow my skirt up as much as First Flight or even Public Enemies.
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 6/30/2010, 12:14 PM
@Shaman - Iron Man had poor action, poorly structured story, and no real Mandarin, even though he is on the back of the box!

I am highly anticipating Thor: Tales of Asgard!
BryEL
BryEL - 6/30/2010, 12:18 PM
Hard to choose... I still love Ultimate Anvengers (my favorite part in a deleted scene was when Hulk screamed "Hulk no like ribs!!!")

For Marvel... eh.. Ultimate Avengers, and for DC... Wonder Woman.
ecksmanfan
ecksmanfan - 6/30/2010, 12:19 PM
@Shaman- Consipiracy? What Conspiracy? Pig [frick]er!

First Flight didn't do much for me. It's good, but not great. I was kind of disappointed in Public Enemies and Crisis on Two Earths. Was expecting more out of those two.
BryEL
BryEL - 6/30/2010, 12:20 PM
Okay, I just checked the results.

Do people on here actually think First Flight was better than WW!?!?
Shaman
Shaman - 6/30/2010, 12:22 PM
ecksmanfan- Yeah. I guess we can only agree to dissagree :)

Mass- Cool, thanks for the details :)

I'm also highly anticipating Tales of Asgard!
Destroyer14
Destroyer14 - 6/30/2010, 12:26 PM
@Bryel Wonder Woman was good, but First Flight was better in my opinion.
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 6/30/2010, 12:26 PM
Hated New Frontier and Invincible Iron Man. Most of the Marvel ones are pretty meh. DC's animation division is better hands down. My pick for #1 is Mask of the Phantasm. I've owned the VHS for as long as I can remember, and my aprreciation for it has grown as I've gotten older. Third best Batman movie period in my opinion.
1. TDK
2. Batman Begins
3. Mask of the Phantasm
4. Batman (1989)
Destroyer14
Destroyer14 - 6/30/2010, 12:27 PM
Crisis on Two Earths is my DC pick. Mainly because of Owlman.

I'm not qualified to vote. I realize that there are a lot here that I've been telling myself I would get around to watching and just haven't. Time to put down the video games for a while.

@Whargoul - I'm not sure anyone in power is gonna see this poll, but I see your point. Sorry though, I just had to give it to Hulk vs. Plant Hulk is very good though. Can you believe they kept that scene with the little kid and the nuclear explosion? Powerful.

I voted for Ultimate Avengers and Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Both great films!
RoClover
RoClover - 6/30/2010, 1:35 PM
Don't hate on me for this, but why does everyone just ADORE Mask of the Phantasm? I've seen it a couple of times but for some reason it's never spoken to me like Return of the Joker did. That one STILL gives me chills during the flashback scene, and the Joker reveal scene, and when Batman II is fighting Joker... and more.

Someone give me reasons why it's so good and maybe I'll rethink my opinion of it. (Maybe cause I saw that one second?)
