POLL: What Do You Think Of The DCnU So Far?

POLL: What Do You Think Of The DCnU So Far?

We are just about half way through DC's "new 52", and although there are still quite a few heavy hitters to come, how do you guys feel about what we have seen so far? Was it a good idea in the end? Or do you miss the old continuity? Vote away..

When word hit that DC Comics were essentially rebooting there entire line of titles and starting from scratch with all new #1 issues the reaction was decidedly mixed. Many felt that to completely disregard so many great titles, including the longest running comic there was in Detective Comics, was nothing more than a cynical ploy to market the characters to a younger, "hipper" demographic. Of course, that WAS one of DC's goals but didn't mean we weren't going to get some great comics at the same time.

We are just about to hit the third week of DC's new 52 releases and have seen about half of the titles on the shelves. From the most anticipated comics like Action Comics and Green Lantern to more obscure cult characters like Animal Man and Swamp Thing which have actually garnered the highest praise so far. Judging from your feedback on previous articles I think a good number of you have picked up at least one or two titles, many more the whole lot so far. So on average how has this reboot gone down with you guys?

Detective Comics is an American comic book published monthly by DC Comics since 1937, best known for introducing the iconic superhero Batman in Detective Comics #27. It is, along with Action Comics, the book that launched with the debut of Superman, one of the medium's signature series, and the source of its company's name. With 881 monthly issues published as of August 2011 (the last issue before a new #1), it is the longest continuously published comic book in the United States.

Its a mess of a universe with characters from other comic universes like Wildstorm and Milestone all forced to fit into a DC continuity that's revised through time travel bullshit far too many times to be an effective narrative plot device any more. It's for people who simply are addicted to buying ANY comic as a bad habit and fresh of the conveyor belt fanboys. Not for people wanting decent mature stories to read.

Mark:

What's the deal with the non-stop polls? They seem to have begun with this "Pollmaster" guy, to have been picked up by Wilding, and now even you.

Dude: I count on you for content. You might be the best here in that respect.

Is it a financial thing? If it is, I can't throw stones. But it sometimes seems like every other post on this site is a poll or the anti-climactic results of a poll.

I don't drive and I work on weekdays so I can only get up to my local store on weekends. So I've missed a lot. I have managed to score Justice League, Batman and Robin, Green Lantern and Suicide Squad. I have a lot of catching up to do though.

@Ceejay – So because you do not like DC it is a conveyor belt for comic book addicts?? Lol, you sound like a condescending comic book snob and yet fail to realize that NO COMIC BOOK is a mature story. If you want mature stories go read some titles off of the NYTimes best sellers list. I believe Marvel just like DC features fantastical characters in fantastical costumes bulging with unrealistic fantastical muscles powered by fantastical superpowers of some sort which are used to solve some fantastical problem. Nothing about either of them is “realistic” besides some of the human feelings and issues that they deal with but that occurs with ANY comic book in some way or another. You are entitled to enjoy Marvel more but why must you crap on everything else? I can find enjoyment in certain titles for both DC and Marvel, but if I want mature stories I read BOOKS.

Simonson, there are 26 articles on main right now and TWO of them are polls. Do you really consider that to be "non stop"? I really can't understand why anyone has a problem with them. We bring you the content as we get it faster than any other site on the net but there isn't always too much to cover out there so in slow periods we post polls to continue the article rotation, give you something new to read and promote some debate. If you don't enjoy them it's really not an issue not to click on them is it?

Since this thread is shorter than the Nolanite one, I'll ask here.

1) Why so many polls that we can predict the outcome of? Some are good for generating discussion, but isn't it kind of a waste for 90% of the polls in the last month alone?

Are you guys getting paid for this filler?

2) How many times can one vote on a current poll? It doesn't seem like it limits it. So, for instance, anytime someone brings up a Nolan poll, what's to stop some stupid Nolan fanboy from voting 100 times as he FAPS to his dark knight blu ray cover?

@ ceejay

you couldn't be more wrong. It's mainly to reintroduce and start from scratch to give new readers and returning readers a good spot to start. It's a complete reboot(besides Batman and Green Lantern) and if you actually read any of them instead of pretending like you know everything you would know that. They're trying to modernize these 70+ year characters so that they no longer feel dated. So far they're doing a great job. Maybe read the new Action Comics #1 and get a feel for the NEW Superman or Justice League #1 to see how the Justice League starts to come together. Otherwise you're just blowing hot air like an asshole.

On Ror's comment above (posted as I posted this), I dont think people mind polls, maybe they just want someone to think of ones that don't have predictable outcomes?

In essence, use the bean and post something TRUELY worthy of debate? Love your posts, so I know you are capable of it.

Quit complaining you bitches. The article says POLL in the title. Why did you click it? Who started this complaining of polls any ways? It leads to good discussion. But that's how most people on this site are one person starts whining they all follow. As long as the poll isn't a copy of another or made to start arguements I don't mind them.

Really loving the DCnU so far. Standouts in order of greatness: 1. Batwoman. 2. Batwing 3. Batman and Robin 4. Batgirl.

I hate suck so much Bat-C0ck, but these issues are seriously flawless.

Fastestmanalive - 9/20/2011, 8:15 AM
Its been pretty good so far, not every title has been amazing, and there were even one or two horrible ones ,Batwoman uuhhghh!! worst comic ever, But all in all its been fairly decent. And its exciting to have something new and different.

And like this article pointed out, the best is yet to come with Flash, Superman, Nightwing, JL Dark, Aquaman, New Gaurdians and a couple more.

So far my Favorites have been Detective comics at number 1, Followed by Batgirl which was a very pleasant suprise, Green Lantern which is always great, and while Red lanterns and Demon knights dident grab me right away I feel it is still the beginning and definitley has the potential to be great.

And thanx for the polls, they are appreciated, theyre great, and if I see a poll that dosent interest me I just dont click on it, so I dont get what all the bitching is about.

What @SteveRogersSon said, Agree Detective comics is amazing and Batgirl is great as well, and check out the back issues of GL its totally worth it.

While I was lookin forward to Action comics and Justice League cuz those are the big ones I was also pretty dissapointed, and also what what theyve done to the greatest superhero of all time, but its still the beginning so hopefullt they'll tweak him back to normal.

And btw Cap is a great book and the only Marvel comic worth pickin up these days IMO.
