Is it okay to be a fanboy/fangirl and use that title as an excuse for being overly critical of CBM's?
When the film is Wolverine Origins, there is good cause for criticism. Likewise Batman and Robin, Catwoman, etc. Nobody wants to see their childhood hero shamed in a terrible movie. It's clear that the makers of Catwoman knew absolutely nothing about the character. In the case of Wolverine Origins, ego did the movie in. Too many characters. PG rating. "Deadpool".
There are times when we need to raise our voices.
Then there is the Avengers. This is a movie many of us have been eagerly anticipating since early childhood. Based just on that fact, one might think it gives one the right to criticize the film. For example... Hawkeye didn't say anything in the trailer.
In my opinion, it's doesn't. At all. The pickle must be removed.
You see, just getting these films at all is an incredible gift. The fact that it doesn't meet ALL of the needs of fanboys who immediately run for the vaseline right after watching a trailer does not mean there is anything wrong with the trailer.
You see, these movies must have mass appeal. So although you may want Thor wearing his helmet throughout the entire film, many girls want to see his face. It's call sex appeal.
Likewise, you want more Hawkeye. But where was his film? Will it ever be made? Should it be made? Is he "that" great of a character? I suspect he'll have a small role in the film - and so should it be. Thor, Hulk, Cap, Iron Man... they've all been developed by Marvel already. They need the spotlight because they are filling seats in the theaters.
My final point. Hey you mr. fanboy who just crapped his pants watching the Dark Knight Rises trailer for the 700th time... you are the minority. The movie is not being made just for you. Maybe not even for you at all.
So it is okay to gripe and complain? Sure. When it's justified. When the film is being bastardized. Until then... keep watching Phantom Menace in your underwear, wielding your light saber with a bucket over your head.
Oh, and one last thing. Grif rocks. He's the ultimate parody of the people I'm writing about.
