It took Stephen King 22 years to finish his epic tale of The Gunslinger, Roland, and his companions as they are drawn towards the Dark Tower. Kinda like Lord Of The Rings, The Dark Tower is a story where all the excitement and adventure happens during the journey.
This from Cinematical.com:
"J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof (co-creator of Lost) have reportedly purchased the rights to the entire "Dark Tower" series from King himself for $19.00 -- unique because the number 19 recurs throughout the novels. King must be an enormous Abrams fan, because he already turned down Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption," "The Green Mile," "The Mist"), who was interested in adapting the series himself."
Damon Lindelof states:
"We're just so focused on finishing Lost that it's really hard to think about anything else. The last thing we want to think about is how to adapt a seven book series of, you know, basically the writer who we admire the most and look up to most and has inspired our work the most, and do anything with that."
Fortunate for Abrams and Lindelof Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series is already laid out in a seven book spread. Who knows how many films will be made? But if your any fan of King and or Abrams this is great news.
Are you kidding me? I loved Abrams take on "Star Trek," I can't wait to see what he can do in the realm of fantasy. Stay tuned as further news develops.
"The Dark Tower" had a Marvel comics run back in 2007.
