The graphic novel will feature short stories from some of the most prolific women in the industry.

Womanthology is an anthology graphic novel created entirely by women for Charity. The purpose of the book is to showcase the works of female creators of every age and experience levels.

The Graphic Novel will majorly consist of many short stories interpreting our theme for this volume; "Heroic". We'll also have interviews and how-to's with some of the industry's top female pros, as well as talks with young girls who someday want a career in comics.

We will be published, and will be raising all the printing costs for the project through Kickstarter.com.

The Kickstarter page reads:

It features the work of "over 140 women of all experience levels", including writer and editor Barbara Kesel, Gail Simone (Birds of Prey), (Secret Six), Annie Nocenti (Daredevil), and artists Ming Doyle and Devin Grayson (Nightwing).

"Womanthology is the first of its kind. Never before have women in comics and media come together in such a huge way to create something like this. Never before has there been a publisher willing to give so many people a chance."

The sponsored charity is the Global Giving Foundation. They are a website dedicated to helping small charities from all over the world find funding. Once the book is finished, the profits will go to as many of these charities as possible, focusing on one at a time until their funding goal is met. Here's a brief intro video:

Womanthology is a new women's anthology project spearheaded by Renae De Liz. The stories will reflect the theme "Heroic". It will be published by IDW on December 7th, 2011. All proceeds will go to the Global Giving Foundation. They are raising $25,000 in production funds via Kickstarter.

I think it's great that women are finally seeing some appreciation in the comic industry.

SirPrize- Are you serious? Women have been oprressed for years, obviously today it's very different but it still happens. And I think it's a good thing that we are celebrating diversity and gender equality in an industry which is very male dominant, I mean sure if this was just novels or something then I'd understand where you're coming from. Comics are aimed towards a male audience and are run primarily by males, this is just showing that women play a part in the industry too. Nothing wrong with that.

These anthologies like this are rarely any good though. It is nice to see greats like Gail Simone up there though, so maybe this one will be a bit better than the usual ones are

@Sir Prize they've already raised $50K doubling their initial goal of $25K in a very short amount of time. So I's say it was pretty smart.

What worries me is that something with so many talented examples of women in the industry may end up being a dud. If it is, it will reflect negatively on all women writers and artists out there.

I hope it is a success, but like many of the industry spotlight books that focus on celebrities and such, I worry that it will be subparr.

Though Gail is one of my favorite writers out there.

I was reluctant to click on this because I was certain 90% of the comments would make my eyes bleed. Sometimes I hate being always right. Whatever.

Anyway, what's really piqued my interest is that they're featuring artists of all skill levels. Amateurs and newcomers are always exciting to see, hope there's a lot of great talent. Cool that they reached their initial goal so fast, hope they make enough to have a larger print run might pick up a copy.

I really wanna know who the artist of that first pic is, it's ****ing sweet.

@- SirPRize- I still don't see your point though. What I'm trying to say so what if it's aimed at just women? That's like saying Batman's going to fail as a character because he's aimed towards males. That's not true. Besides that isn't the point, the point is to celebrate diversity in the industry, I think it's a good thing. Plus simply because it's got the word woman in the title doesn't mean it's going to be super girly stories or whatever, they probably have a lot that's going to just as pleasing to males.

I've been a woman in comics fandom for what I'll bet is longer than every other poster here has been alive (I read my first comic in 1972) and I want to thank this comment thread for once again proving to me that most men in comics fandom are pigs.
