Variety's Josh Dickey is reporting that Dean Parisot is close to signing on for the sequel to
Red. Parisot is most remembered for directing 1999's
Galaxy Quest which was a humorous parody of
Star Trek. A film about a cult sci-fi show that is approached by an alien species which mistakenly believes their television show was real and seeks their help in order to vanquish an enemy.
If negotiation go well Parisot will be taking over for Robert Schwentke (
R.I.P.D.).
Red is based on a three issue comic book series published by DC Comics. It was created by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner. The film adaptation in 2010 made $90 million domestically and a total of over $186.5 million worldwide.
Variety adds that production could be take some time to start because Willis' schedule is quite busy at the moment, while other members of the ensemble still aren't signed on for the sequel.
Red starred Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Karl Urban, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren.
