Variety's Josh Dickey is reporting that Dean Parisot is close to signing on for the sequel to Red. Parisot is most remembered for directing 1999's Galaxy Quest which was a humorous parody of Star Trek. A film about a cult sci-fi show that is approached by an alien species which mistakenly believes their television show was real and seeks their help in order to vanquish an enemy.

If negotiation go well Parisot will be taking over for Robert Schwentke (R.I.P.D.). Red is based on a three issue comic book series published by DC Comics. It was created by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner. The film adaptation in 2010 made $90 million domestically and a total of over $186.5 million worldwide.

Variety adds that production could be take some time to start because Willis' schedule is quite busy at the moment, while other members of the ensemble still aren't signed on for the sequel.

Red starred Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Karl Urban, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren.

Red's Synopsis (2010) - When his peaceful life is threatened by a high-tech assassin, former black-ops agent Frank Moses reassembles his old team in a last ditch effort to survive and uncover his assailants. IMDB

I thought Red was terrific, but a sequel seems a bit unnecessary.

Cool! I loved the 1st, and The Losers. It's pretty damn sad when your sister company, vertigo makes better movies than the main company (DC).

Gambit - DC had little to nothing to do with those movies other then they own the comic book rights. Those movies were good because of who made em. DC didn't make em, I will agree though about Vertigo. But then again they make better comics then DC does.

"By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Warvan, you shall be avenged!"

I never did see Red. I meant to, just never seemed to get around to seeing it though.

For one thing, is it any good?

@daywalker1623 Really hmm. Thanks for letting me now, I've never read a Vertigo comic in my life, I first heard about them when RED came out, or Losers, which ever came out first, I've seen them in my comic shop, just never cared to pick them up.

Empress Skeith - I agree with Gambit, Red was a good flick. Well worth redboxing or netflixing. John Malkovich is great as usual. Bruce Willis does what Bruce Willis does. However it did seem awkward when he kissed Mary Louise Parker.

I liked the first movie especially John Malkovich who pretty much made the movie. Also Helen Mirren is a GILF.

Galxy Quest is one of my favrite comedies so this is very good news.

Malkovich was awesome, but he always is. Useless sequel if you ask me. Love the Mirren gif teabag. That milk is NOT sour!

One simple sentence can secure this for Dean Parisot:

Dean - "I will do to Helen Mirren's breasts what I did to Sigorny's in Galaxy Quest!"

Never saw the first film, soo...
But yeah, WB/DC should focus on a Flash and/or Wonder Woman film right now, instead of filling their slate up with sequels that few want.

I thought the first movie was OK. It had a great cast, but the writing and directing were a little underwhelming.

The action was quickly edited. It felt very rushed.

I think I saw Galaxy Quest in theaters and it was a surprisingly good movie. Heh, it was even recently referenced on HIMYM a couple of episodes ago. Maybe this guy could make the sequel what the first movie should have been.
